I made 4 more blocks yesterday and tried some layouts. There are 2 blocks alike of every combination of fabrics.
I won't decide on a layout until I have all of the blocks made.
I have six blocks sewn, 14 to go.
Information about the pattern on this post.
There was a question yesterday about a place to go see all of the Kaffe Fassett fabrics and as far as I know there isn't one. I have thought about starting another blog where I will post photos of every number (which is up in the 100s now) with the colors I have in each of the numbers. It will be a long process, meaning pulling out all of the fabrics, arranging them, taking a photo and then putting them back and then the next number, over 100 times. *Added at 7:30 a.m.--Carol (no reply commenter) gave a link to Kaffe's fabric but it only goes back to 2009. He started designing fabric in the 1990s. That link only gives the fabrics starting with #100. I have fabrics 01 - 99 that I can document also.
Sometimes thinking is enough!!! I have lots of good ideas that often never get beyond the 'thinking' stage. I like the color play on the blocks!
ReplyDeleteLooking great...
ReplyDeleteAll of Kaffe's fabrics can be seen at http://www.kaffefassett.com/Fabrics.html
ReplyDeleteThis would only be his designs - not Brandon's or Philips.
Wanda, I love this pattern! Looking forward to watching the blocks grow in number!!

These blocks look great - so many great ways to set them. I personally wouldn't worry about photographing the fabrics - you would think the fabric designers would have more motivation to provide such a resource. Unless you think you would get more people willing to buy your fabric and you have enough to sell to make it worth your time.
ReplyDeleteLove your layouts of the floating squares. I know which one I would choose and will be interested to see which one you choose.
ReplyDeleteTaking pics of all the fabrics and numbering seems like a 3 person project, one to arrange, one to take pic, one to number on the computer and one to put away all the fabric.......with frequent cookie breaks!
I was happy to see Carol Eskola's comment with the link to all Kaffe's fabrics. I didn't realize his first was in 2009.
ReplyDeleteLiking the color addition. Makes me want to try it again.
ReplyDeleteYou have been busy with a lot of different projects! The weather has been awful between the heat and humidity.
ReplyDeleteWonder if your art quilters (or another small group of like-minded friends) would be interested in assisting you with a documentation project for Kaffe's earliest fabrics?
ReplyDeleteYour collection of Kaffe fabrics is amazing. I wasn't the least bit interested in his designs when they first came out. No special reason, just wasn't. It was the same with batiks. They didn't interest me. Maybe with batiks I quilted so many of them and didn't like the feel of the stiff fabric. However I have come to enjoy batiks and love Kaffe fabrics. I've turned into a bright color piecer. My first completed quilt many years ago was done in 3 shades of brown. I've come a long ways with color, but still like my brown quilt because they are nice quality quilt shop fabrics for it's day and it taught me so much about piecing. I must give you credit for sharing your wonderful quilts and fabrics. Your blog has taught me much and given me ideas I may never have thought about before.
ReplyDeleteOMGOSH I really like this pattern!!
ReplyDeleteIt is a very different pattern. Color choices really seem to change the pattern dramatically.
ReplyDeleteThe blocks are beautiful. It would be really fun to see the 1-99 fabrics and see his progress over the years.
ReplyDeleteI do so wish there was a place online for quilters to keep a list of their stashes and supplies, like Ravelry does for knitters! It would make shopping and planning so much easier!
ReplyDeleteI'm liking the look of this quilt in the making - I don't usually go for browns but the bright red really makes a huge difference. It would be very interesting to see an inventory of the KF fabrics, although extremely time consuming for you!
ReplyDeleteOnce again playing catch up with a weeks worth of your blogs ! Priority is your Triangles, that is one awesome design ! Love the combination of fabrics from light to dark. Just maybe I will stop by to see it about Fair time. Your butterfly photo's are so special. We had an abundance of the Swallow tail butterflies this season. And I too took photo's of them and used for my desk top screen saver. I can see your Stonehenge piece is going to be another glorious addition to your already wonderful designs. Have you ever counted ALL of the quilts you have made ? Bet it is at least a 1000 plus !

Wanda, I use the news app in Windows 10 (a 'bing' product?) and have "quilting" as one of my interests. There are dozens of news items each day, and today, your blog was one of them! Congratulations... you have more readers than you know!
ReplyDeleteI like this block too. It is simple but dramatic.
