Saturday night I decided I needed to play with a colorwash of sorts. I wanted this one to be splotches of color not necessarily blending into each other. I found this very hard since I can do the blend so well if they are in color wheel order.
I got this far Sunday afternoon and I wasn't totally happy with it but I was going to sew it together.
When I went back down to the basement last night to look at it i decided it needed one more row of squares on the left and top. I also changed 2 pieces at the bottom of the red-purple section. Since I have church sewing circle today I won't get it sewn right away and that will give me time to decide if I'm happy with it.
In the garden a few of the Hostas are blooming. The flowers on some are ho-hum but I like this one.
This blue leaf Hosta has neat flowers too. I have one variety that doesn't bloom until the end of August so it is a little at a time with the large variety of Hostas that I have.
I love the colours in the quilt - the shape reminded me of Africa. The Hosta's are looking good - I didn't get any flowers on mine this year as the snails got to them first :(
ReplyDeleteThe color wash is beautiful.. Reminds me of a pixelated flower patch.
ReplyDeleteThis color wash is outstanding!!!! My hosta bloomed about a week ago and they smell wonderful in one spot as I have so many blooming at one time.
ReplyDeleteOur local garden club had its annual garden walk on Saturday. The featured gardens had wonderful hostas. One had a huge-leafed variety next to a mini variety (it was either Mighty Mouse or Mouse Ears).
ReplyDeleteMe? I just have hostas that need to be thinned.
Well I sure like your color wash! It is beautiful.
ReplyDeleteI love watching your quilts bloom.
ReplyDeleteYou have a great eye for color! My hosta have not yet started to bloom. My hummers are waiting for them!

Your colorwash is stunning!!!!! Sometimes I think we get to close to our work and can't see it as others see it. I would be thrilled to have that come to life on my design wall!!!! The colors are vibrant and there is lots of movement.
ReplyDeleteLove the color wash. Reminds me of blended poured paint or a painter's palette at the end of the day. Your garden pictures are always enjoyable.
ReplyDeleteFrom your 'pinks' to the 'splotches of color' and onto your gardens made for a great visual and always interesting read this morning. I even went back to the pasts posts to catch up with you. Loved the June recap, with your awesome circles reminding me of the soap bubbles we blow with a wand. And then there was the piece you posted on July 4th that was just tantalizing.
ReplyDeleteYour blog really hit the spot today, as it is a damp overcast cool July day here in the mountains. Rained all night which is unusual for us. We got a whole 3/4" over night. And I know in IL. you get that with a half hour rain fall.

I love this new project! Maybe instead of colorwash, you could call it colorburst? Reminds me of Melody's yummy hand-dyeds of yore. :) Stay cool today!

I say, ME TOO!
I like the all pink quilt blocks!! You are so very creative. Your colorwash type of quilt blocks are smashing. Hope you are keeping cool this summer. Do you still have your quilt top, from Material Obsession book, Fractured pattern in reds and blacks?? I would be interested in it, if you do.
