I moved one of my design walls to a different location in the eating area in my basement. It can't stay there when I have company but I can have it there for better lighting for photography the rest of the time. These are the Kaffe collective and plaid triangles, layout 1.
The design wall is 4' wide so you can see they are big triangles, finishing at 6" squares; layout 2
Layout 3
I was having a hard time trying to keep the shine off the pages for this photo. The top one is Kaffe prints, ikats, stripes and plaids and is in one of Kaffe's books. The bottom one is Kaffe prints and stripes and was in a magazine in 2006. I would have to delete most of my light fabrics to get this look. The mediums become the lights. I could also divide the fabrics and make 2 quilts.
I do like the zig zag even though it is not like the magazine. It has a zip to it with its unexpected fabric pairings.
ReplyDeleteOf these, I like layout #2 the best.

I can say that I have no favorite even though I've looked at them several times. The zig zag is more striking of the 3 layouts. I know you will figure out the perfect top.
ReplyDeleteIt will be interesting to see what path you take with this one. I would have a difficult time pairing the Kaffe fabrics with the plaids.
ReplyDeleteI've been following your blog for quite a while now, and since I live in Indiana, am in hopes I can venture over to Illinois to see one of your trunk shows. I plan on retiring in 2 to 3 years and have enjoyed learning how you intersperse outdoor activities / friends / quilting into your life. (I figure I've "stalked" your life, so am just giving you some background on me...)
ReplyDeleteI've also enjoyed the thought you put into your quilts. The process you go through --- your patience in getting to the final quilt.
Of the three, the Layout 1, Zigzag, is the zinger for me. Close second is Layout 2, Radiating Diamond. However, in looking longer at the Zigzag, it was apparent that all of the light plaids were together, all light Kaffe fabrics were together.......which is why I like the Radiating Diamond --- all are mingled together.

I love the plaids with Kaffe. Honestly it was unexpected, so whatever layout you choose, it will be gorgeous. love your work!
ReplyDeleteThe bottom one is my favourite, but I like symmetry. Your choices are always fascinating, and whichever you choose, the final layout will be as stunning as ever.
ReplyDeletei like no 1 followed by no 3.
ReplyDeleteThe Kaffe fabrics with the plaids is very interesting! Of course the zig zag is my favorite!
ReplyDeleteI started working on a hst quilt, too, but haven't decided on a layout yet. I had to take it down to get some USO quilts churned out! I wouldn't have thought the plaids would work so well with the Kaffe prints, but they certainly do!
ReplyDeleteYes, I was right. Many beautiful quilts have happened since my last visit and my eyes are full of such luscious colors as well. Beautiful work as always Wanda. We are not picking our peonies quite yet, but the tree peonies are blooming. I do not pick those because they are just too beautiful and huge and there are not many of them.
