Binding done, another which way is up?....................
I finished hand sewing the binding on the tablecloth last night. I'll take a photo of it on the table today in the daylight and a full view on a design wall.
I want to quilt this small piece and the orientation of it will affect the way I will quilt it. If you have any strong opinions of which way is up please leave me a comment. They are top row left to right #1 and #2. The second row left to right is #3 and #4.
#2, because the lines keep the eye moving to the left (as we would read a book in the western cultures). View #4 suggests growth from soil. The other two (# 1 and 3) seem to block or halt movement. It's a neat little quilt.............any info on fabrics????
This is why I hate to make decisions - you have to eliminate the other choices. Personally, I would quilt something all over so that it can be used in any direction.
#3 for me - reminds me of the Avenue I live on and the streets coming off left and right :) daft reasoning I know haha looking forward to seeing the cloth on your table...
Wanda, as always, you've made a very interesting project! #2 is my choice...it has a rhythm to it, almost like it wants to tell a story. #1 and #4 look like teeth to me...Maybe I just need more coffee? :)
#2, with the added contrast strip on the left hand side of the "railway lines", and they are against a tree trunk formation. This is what my eyes see, even before I enlarged it, Fascinating fabrics and layout, another stunner from you .
I like 2 and 3, but 3 is my preference. It reminds me of the dry stone walls in the countryside over here with a tree in the foreground to give the "wall" in the top line more perspective. The "walls" have the appearance of being on rolling hills.
I prefer 3 over the other choices. The horizontal ones (with white toothy/piano key look), 1 & 4, just don't intrigue me as much. 2 is okay, but 3 just stands out to me, I think due to lined and margined school paper memories. Haha, that goes way back!
My immediate choice is #2. It just looked right when I took my first glance at all four. And when I looked more closely, I found no reason to change my opinion. I haven't checked what others have voted but will after I post.
Option 3

ReplyDeleteI like #2
ReplyDeleteI like 2 or 3. Leaning toward 3.
ReplyDeleteI like #2 or #3.
ReplyDeleteI like #2. It just seems to work for me. Love what you do; you always have creative projects in the works.
ReplyDeleteI would pick 2 or 3 because the horizontal arrangement makes me think of teeth. But, I am looking at it tiny on a screen.
ReplyDeleteI like #1: The horizontal row up high seems to float, defying gravity, and I like the energy that gives the piece.
ReplyDeleteNote, I came up with the reason after I determined an intuitive preference.

I like #2 but I can't say why. It just appeals to me more. Look forward to seeing the pics of the tablecloth.
ReplyDeleteKaren
I like 4 the best. can't say why, except that it just jumped out as the "right" one!
ReplyDeleteI like 3.... just feels more like a natural ..... but since I don't know what you are going to quilt on it....
ReplyDeleteMy vote is for #2 - it has a "happier" feel than #3. I find it more entertaining to the eye.
ReplyDeleteNot sure why but I like 2 best. They all look good and I really love your little piece!!!!!!
ReplyDeletei like #2
ReplyDeletetwo appeals. my eyes keep coming back to it.
ReplyDelete3 appeals to me but that might be because I am left handed. Gorgeous as usual!!!
ReplyDeleteThis is why I hate to make decisions - you have to eliminate the other choices. Personally, I would quilt something all over so that it can be used in any direction.
ReplyDeleteI like #2 or #3 best. Am leaning towards #2. I agree with the reasoning of Sharon W. above.
ReplyDeleteI feel the same as Sharon W. #2 first, #3 a close second.
ReplyDeleteI like option #2 the best; I think it's the L to R movement as someone else said.
ReplyDeleteI like number 3.
ReplyDeleteGood morning Wanda.....my eye immediately went to #2, so that's the one I vote for.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely #2 for me! It feels richer, and more balanced.
ReplyDelete#2 for me!
ReplyDelete#3 for me - reminds me of the Avenue I live on and the streets coming off left and right :) daft reasoning I know haha looking forward to seeing the cloth on your table...
ReplyDeleteI like it no matter which way you hang it, but I need to make a decision I would go with #2.

ReplyDeleteI like 3, but I can't give a good reason.
ReplyDeleteWanda, as always, you've made a very interesting project! #2 is my choice...it has a rhythm to it, almost like it wants to tell a story. #1 and #4 look like teeth to me...Maybe I just need more coffee? :)
ReplyDelete#2 : )
ReplyDeleteI think I prefer 3 and 4. it looks like the opinions are pretty evenly divided!
ReplyDeleteI choose #1 or #4. Number 1 makes me think of trees. Number 2 brings thoughts of a bridge over streams.
ReplyDeleteI prefer 2, but 3 works for me, too. Beautiful work.
ReplyDeleteOption 2 is my choice. Can't explain why except that it seems the most interesting.
ReplyDelete3 is my first choice with 4 as the alternate.
ReplyDeleteI like #2, because it give the illusion of a tree trunk. I prefer #2 over #3, because the eye reads left to right to take it in.
ReplyDelete#2 without a doubt!!! Love it!! A:-)
ReplyDelete#2, with the added contrast strip on the left hand side of the "railway lines", and they are against a tree trunk formation. This is what my eyes see, even before I enlarged it, Fascinating fabrics and layout, another stunner from you .
ReplyDeleteFunny how we all have innate preferences. Mine is #3. Interested to see which you choose.
ReplyDeleteThis is fun - I say #2.
ReplyDelete2 or 4!
ReplyDelete#3 is my suggestion
ReplyDeleteEven though each has merit, my eyes kept going back to #2. It just holds my attention better than the others.
ReplyDeleteI love the orientation #2
ReplyDeleteI like 2 and 3, but 3 is my preference. It reminds me of the dry stone walls in the countryside over here with a tree in the foreground to give the "wall" in the top line more perspective. The "walls" have the appearance of being on rolling hills.

ReplyDeleteDefinitely #2. #3 would be my second choice.

ReplyDelete#2 is "which way is up". I haven't read the comments, but will after posting this comment. I can't even say why it's #2 - it just is.
ReplyDelete2 too!
