While I waited for the dew to dry off the grass yesterday morning I went to the basement to put away the squares and rectangles on trays left over from the class. I decided to design one more colorwash while doing that. This is just squares on the design wall. I have it mostly sewn now.
As I was going through things for a garage sale I came across this pattern from 1957. I made these aprons for my mother. Look at the size of the waistlines on the ladies. I think they would have needed ribs removed to be that small.
Last night I sewed together the little colorwash piece that I used for a demonstration at the class on Tuesday. It is about 24" square.
I mowed the grass in 2 sessions. Even though the humidity dropped a lot it was hot. There was a nice breeze when I got to the shady backyard.
Only you could design a stunning colorwash while cleaning up from a class!
ReplyDeleteSuppose to be more humid today so doing it yesterday was probably good. I have to sew today and over the weekend. Dresses need finishing. Chris
ReplyDeleteI really like the color wash with the floral fabrics. Although the closeup view shows that appears to be a few batiks in there too.
ReplyDeleteThat apron pattern is a hoot....with those tiny waists that no one had. The watercolor wall hanging is a beauty.....where do you get all this energy? Speed sewer and grass cutter!
ReplyDeleteoh to have a waist that small - a "Barbie" waist line - fantasy LOL
ReplyDeletelove the colorwash - I woke up to 70 degrees this morning - unreal! normally close to 80 by 7:30
I dove into a bin of sewing related "stuff" this week and discovered a bunch of old clothing patterns too. I just don't see me doing that kind of work anymore so they will be added to the things I'm donating to the Bits 'N Pieces booth for the quilt club. We aren't allowed to have garage sales in our neighborhood.
ReplyDeleteThe colorwash is a beauty.
Diane and Debbie echo my sentiments.
ReplyDeleteBefore our house fire, I had one of those pocketed aprons (ones that could fit around me). They were great for quilting because I am always misplacing the thread or scissors. Label was good to fix the needle to. I keep my eye out for one of these aprons that will fit me at garage sales.
HA HA waistlines. Reminds me of my mother's high school graduation dress. It wouldn't go over my head as a teen-ager!!!!
ReplyDeleteReminds me of an apron **I** used to make for my mom.
ReplyDeleteAlways fun to see your color wash pieces.
I LOVE the colors in that first colorwash. That is so pretty.
ReplyDeleteYikes! That waistline is scary looking, but that is a great apron pattern. The pockets would be wonderful.
Ooooo...I'd love to have that apron. Is it one size fits all or sized? I'm thinking I want ruffles on the shoulders, but I like those big pockets. I used to have a small waistline, but not quite built like Barbie otherwise, too short. I'm not allowed to have garage sales, as when I asked dear hubby to give me a break to go the bathroom that was the end of them. Another couple great colorwashes, Wanda. Is there anything you can't do!
ReplyDeleteThis colorwash seems to have more movement in it than others you have recently made, it really got my attention. Looking more closely at the blown up version, I could see the fabric better and it is more lively than others you have made, or it seems so to me. Lovely quilt.
