After sewing the last batch of blocks yesterday I decided to try to figure out a layout. I am short 7 blocks with light corners so in the last batch I sewed I should have caught that. Most of the cutting mistakes were on light blocks too. I have 5 ready to sew this morning so only 2 more to cut.
My tomato plants are officially as tall as I am now and I haven't given them any fertilizer yet. There are lots of tomatoes too.
The balloon flowers are opening. I pulled out all of the primrose because the Japanese beetles like it. That actually made more room for these beauties.
They are such a pretty shade of periwinkle blue.
I can't believe how fast this quilt is assembling! Love the periwinkle color- such a hard color to find in fabric. My tonatoes are just about dead. I think the rain and cool temps have done them in. They are in well drained pots, but look totally miserable.
ReplyDeletelove the quilt. your tomatoes sure are growing fast and tall. some of mine are well, but others although tall and thin as can be.(even with miracle gro)
ReplyDeleteThose blocks are so pretty. You're right....that is a pretty color of blue.
ReplyDeleteThe tomatoes will soon be ripening and you can enjoy the special taste of summer.
Yummy! Home grow tomatoes! I really need to see if I can grow at least one container plant next year. It would make my husband so happy. And that periwinkle blue is gorgeous, but I don't think I'm familiar with a balloon flower. Your quilt is going so fast! It's amazing how you can be so dedicated and get your quilts done. I just imagine you as a dynamo of humming energy! I love the pattern that the four squares are making. It reminds me of what I've been seeing lately called an Irish Chain quilt. The patterns remind me of each other, anyway. Well, I have not been able to sew for over two weeks now, a long time away at once. No wonder I don't get anything done! But I really enjoy reading about and seeing you work. I'm embarrassed to say that I haven't gotten anything done with my Liberty scraps yet, unless fondling them counts, haha! I have finally decided I would like to make a pillow, but I'm not sure on the pattern yet. Just wanted to check in!

Wonderful rich colors. Your quilt is coming along beautifully, Wanda.
ReplyDeleteWhat a huge tomato plant. What type tomato did you plant this year?
I've never heard of balloon flowers but they sure are pretty.
ReplyDeleteThe unopened balloon flower resembles a hot air balloon is how it got its common name, I guess. I had 2, 1 on each side of the front door stoop, but the yew overtook the space where one was. Now only the 1 grows. I hate to take the yew out just yet, but eventually it will have to be done. I'm surprised how much I like your colors in that quilt top. I don't usually go for neutrals much except black and white.
