I couldn't get motivated to finish anything yesterday so I cut another 4 patch posy/posey/posie. Yes you will find it spelled all 3 ways if you do a search for the pattern/method. This fabric is from the days before there were quilt shops so mid to late 70s probably. It was folded right sides in like they did all clothing fabrics back then.
Here are the first 12 up on the design wall, not sewn together.
I was able to get 28 blocks cut at 6". Sewn together the blocks finish at 11". There is a good variety of centers in the blocks. I don't like square quilts so I have to figure out what to do in the last 2 blocks for a 5 x 6 layout or just use 24 of the blocks for a 4 x 6 layout.
Cut two of the blocks of the four and make like a border all the way around to make it more rectangle.Instead of four blocks sewn together just two. Sounds clear as mud. Chris
Good morning Wanda...What beautiful blocks you were able to get from 'this ole stash fabric' that is about 40 years old. Just goes to prove that some things never grow old or wear out, like we humans do. How about on point with filler blocks? Just out of curiosity, how much fabric did you use for these blocks? Have a good day.
Your "couldn't get motivated" day produced some sweet blocks and it looks like you had some fun. The fabric reminds me of Vera Neumann flower prints from that time, which I still like.
I REALLY like the designs that your posey's make. Like the center of a kaleidoscope. So mesmerizing.
Took time today to check out your, Blazing Star's, Hunter Star's and all the way back to your Snow Ball quilt. What a great show for me today. All so precise and spectacular, a wonderful treat to study each and everyone.
Cutting and re sewing the fabric as a 4-patch posey definitely improved on the fabric, which I thought was othersidr rather dull! The blocks look great and so will the quilt.
Wanda I have put the four patch posey blocks on point and added thin sashing and love them. Candy Are my posts still showing as annonymous? Have tried to change. Grrrr Google

Love this idea - you give me too many options of things I should/want to try out haha, but not complaining :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful piece of fabric to pull from stash - so fresh and spring-like - not dated feeling at all! Lovely Posie blocks!!

ReplyDeleteVery nice old fabric done up beautifully.
ReplyDeleteI love the effect you're getting from that fabric. I don't like square quilts either and I can't explain why.

How fun!
ReplyDeleteIt is a very painterly fabric, and you achieved some wonderfully varying results in your cutting! Congrats!
ReplyDeleteHalf blocks along the top and bottom have worked quite well for me.
