After mentioning to several people that I didn't want to add any different fabrics into this 2 color quilt, I realized I don't even have enough of the dark zebra fabric left for binding so I went to my stash. I found 4 pieces that are pretty close to the background color. I think I had 2.5 yards of the darker fabric to start with and I have a 3/8 yard piece left plus several small pieces.
I waited all day for a repairman that never came. I didn't want to be in the basement because my doorbell sounds tinny and not very loud (another repairman to call). He said he would call before he comes but the last 2 times he said that and didn't call first. So....I quilted and bound 2 more mug rugs. I had loaded a quilt on my frame 2 days ago and really wanted to be quilting it.
The pink and white blossoms were just begging to be photographed.
The last bloom on this red plant. I have another red plant that has a bunch of new buds.
Oh, how those colors lift my spirits, especially this winter. I solved my doorbell problem with a wireless one. It plugs in the wall, needs no wiring and is loud no matter where I am. The grand kids think it is a fun thing to do over and over when they come over, but it gets the job done.
ReplyDeleteDon't you just hate the new... system of repairmen/services. They give an impossibly long window, say they will call and arrive (or not) without calling. I must say I had a pleasant experience yesterday tho.... on time, a call and efficient when they got here. Those flowers look so bright and cheerful on a cold day!
ReplyDeleteLooks like you made good use of your time though. I still love the cactus. Wish I could find some. Chris
ReplyDeleteYour Christmas Cactus plants are so beautiful. Do you have any tips for growing them? I have one that had blooms when I bought it a year ago but did not bloom this year. Glad to be able to enjoy yours through your blog!
ReplyDeleteI love the fabric with the orange dots, upper right in the photo. Perfect for the binding. So happy to see a great new book to order!
ReplyDeleteI like the red and black in the upper left.
ReplyDeleteAny of those fabrics would work. Too bad about the repairman. That is just rude. If they couldn't make they could at least call. The color of those flowers is just beautiful. I bet it is colder where you are than here. Snow is on our menu this weekend if the weather people are right.
ReplyDeleteI noticed a bloom on my white cactus this morning! Spring must really be on the way!
ReplyDeleteI just 'love' repairmen who do that. I've been pretty lucky lately though. Of course, they have to call when they get off the highway so my hubby can go down and open the gate for them. Oh, and if they don't listen to the directions, we sometimes have to go find them if they take the first left (good country road) rather than second left (half as wide and more like a wide jeep trail). We won't talk about the one who ended up 30 miles from where he was supposed to be because he was SURE that his GPS would get him to our house - not.
ReplyDeleteA healthy stash always comes in handy when we need just a little bit more of a particular color. Looks like your stash provided just what you needed.
ReplyDeleteI look forward to your sharing of your beautiful winter blooms every year. They brighten my gray or cold or snowy days.
I HATE waiting around for repairmen - especially when they don't show up!!!!!
ReplyDeleteThe cactus plants look so healthy and the blooms are lovely.
Your bold fabric choices always fascinate...
ReplyDeleteMy doorbell was not loud enough to hear in the basement either, so I found an enhancer or accelerator at Home Depot. You hang a little plastic thing inside the chime and plug the other piece into an outlet downstairs... and now it is loud and easy to hear, even if I have the TV on, etc. I wasn't expensive and might be a good solution for you (unless you already have a bell down there and it is broken).
I went for a walk Wednesday and heard birds singing, but it is over -30 today. :-(
Your stash has done you well with those options, they look promising. I always enjoy seeing photos of your blooms.
ReplyDeleteI absolutely love the kind of starburst quilt .
ReplyDeleteThe book is on Amazon , I have just checked
It is a must have . It will make me the third K D book
Yep, that fabric ought to work just fine. Those cactus blooms are gorgeous! They just glow.
