Log cabin 76" x 98".........

I finally finished sewing the log cabin top.  I think I might piece the back out of some of the bigger pieces of plaids and stripes.  This fabric is very lightweight so I think a lightweight backing would be nice too.

It was above freezing all day yesterday but we still have snow.  Today is supposed to be around 40 so a lot more should melt.

  1. This is one of the most appealing layouts I have seen for a log cabin; makes me finally want to make one!

  2. We are to get rain then turn to snow overnight. Your quilt will be finished before you know. Chris

  4. Love that quilt! Our snow is gone except where it was plowed up into large piles. All the small plowed piles are gone. The landscape changed overnight!

  6. What a great finish. I think your idea for the backing is a good one. I get cold just looking at your snow picture.

  7. I love how the log cabin looks. I have not used that layout for any of my log cabins that I have made over the years so it looks very refreshing to me.
it got up to 65 briefly yesterday - I wonder what today will bring.

  12. I'm always amazed at how you can make such colorful (beautiful) quilts out of such divergent fabrics. Plaids on day, Kaffe the next. It is so wonderful to follow your work!

  13. It is stunning -- congratulations on a great finish.
We have had very mild temperatures too and there is next to snow left. But the cooler temps are coming back for us tomorrow.

  14. It's really cool! If you want it to remain lightweight you could use a flannel sheet as batting.

  15. Bravo! I can only imagine how you will piece the backing? I love a pieced backing, and it helps to get some items out of the stash at the same time!

  20. I decided to make my very first quilt - which was a log cabin quilt - because I fell in love with some log cabin quilts I saw at a craft show I Kentucky, while visiting my in-laws here from Atlanta where we lived at the time. And I've always loved log cabin quilts. But this may be the most striking one I've ever seen. You may have said before, but how wide are the individual strips?
    Just wonderful work!
