I paid bills, did laundry, and made pea soup on the last day of the year. I have 8 bowls of soup to put in the freezer for this cold winter.
I have to make a decision of how many more plaid/stripe log cabin blocks I need to make. The blocks are 11" so the 2 sizes of quilts I'm considering are 55" x 77" and 66" x 88". If I do a symmetrical layout I need 17 more blocks. If I do the zig zag or diagonal stripe (straight furrows) I can have an uneven number of rows in both directions (4 more blocks). No decision made yet.
I started cutting the leftover plaids and stripes into 4.5" squares, 2.5" squares and 2.5" x 6.5" rectangles with my Bear Paw die. The plastic bag is full of scraps too small or irregular shaped to cut a 2.5" square.
Here are four mock ups of blocks that I can make with those pieces. I could use a combination of all four and it would just look like a scrap quilt without a pattern. Again, no decision made.
I was cleaning out a drawer and found 4 tweezers. Usually when I am looking for one I can't find it and I end up borrowing the tweezers out of the serger tool box. I think I have put these in a logical place where I can find them now. Maybe I need to leave a clue on my blog in case I can't find that "logical" place.
LOL I'm still looking for a couple things that were logically placed in a safe place. The log cabin blocks look so homey and comfortable. Chris
ReplyDeletehappy new year!!! cooking is today finishing the turkey soup! I keep all my essential tools in a caddy... multi-level and spins...
ReplyDeletehappy new year to you , I have to sit down and do the bills today - making soup sounds good. Always love log cabin blocks
ReplyDeletemy tweezers get lost more than any other tool. Why is that?
ReplyDeleteI will be paying bills in about 10 minutes. there was a man in front of me in the grocery line yesterday who had 6 2 pound bags of dries split peas-wonder what he was making:) I love split pea soup. The blocks look wonderful. have a Fabulous first day of the new year!
ReplyDeleteLove how the log cabin quilt is coming along. It looks so cozy. It would be a great quilt to cuddle up with by the fire. My husband is making ham and beans today. Yum. Happy New Year.
ReplyDeleteOh....those darn logical places!!!! I LOVE the zig zags.
ReplyDeletere: New Years Eve day

I was just chatting online with another quilter about not being able to find things. Sometimes I just give up and go buy another one. Definitely need to be more organized.
ReplyDeleteI buy 100% cotton shirts at Goodwill for the fabric….happy to see you probably do that too! Love the different plaids.
ReplyDeleteYour "recap" is very cheerful! Thanks for posting
Hope you have a wonder New Year!
Soup would fit the bill here in upstate NY. Love the quilt.
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year to you.
Happy New Year Wanda!
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year, Wanda!
ReplyDeleteThe rule of thumb (okay, my rule of thumb, that I got from somewhere) is to put a thing back in the first place you looked when you started hunting for it. In your case, maybe do that in as many rooms as you have pairs of tweezers!
I am loving the plaids.

I am right with you on finding logical places for things. I must have a dozen seam rippers and yet it can be an all out search to find just one! Your log cabin is looking great.
ReplyDeleteFor a log cabin quilt you will never regret a size of 66" x 88". Beautiful quilt.
ReplyDeleteYour log cabin blocks are just so lovely - there is a depth to them that I like.
ReplyDeleteClearly you don't throw ANY piece of fabric away! I have started saving all batik scraps - I find it very useful.
ReplyDeletelove the log cabin quilt. it looks amazing. I know what you mean about the logical place for something. Mine is the proverbially safe place. My hubby and I once had to take a loaded cedar chest to the locksmith to have another key made because the key was in a safe place where my goddaughter couldn't find it (she was 2 at the time). the latest thing I couldn't find was the candied ginger I needed for the cranberry chutney. I had enough fresh ginger so I made my own, then I found the package I bought. Good grief.
ReplyDeleteYes leave yourself a note as to where you put stuff and put it someplace you won't forget. LOL I just went through all that, I got real organized and had 2 tiny vials of lavender. Naturally about a month later wanted the lavender and couldn't find it no matter where I looked. It wasn't on any of the list I had made as to what was in each box. It took at least a month before it jumped up at me. Hate all of this snow, please make it stop.
ReplyDeleteI like the pattern the log cabin is making! I can never find tweezers, either!
