The art quilters came for the last time in 2013 yesterday. After they left (and after my nap) I got this quilt ready to baste. I made this in 2011. Here it is when I finished sewing it together. I am going to use the left over piece from the backing on this one for the border on another quilt. It is Red Jungle Paisley by Kaffe Fassett. You can see the other quilt tossed on the chair in the background, the stars and 16 patches.
I needed a project to work on in the main floor studio so I pulled a bunch of 2.5" strips in browns/rust/gold and sewed them together in pairs while I watched Castle. I can't tell you what the project is because I haven't decided if it is going to be a 16 patch quilt, a double 4 patch quilt, or maybe one with alternate squares of a batik with a large design in it. I have one with large giraffes and a couple other interesting ones.
I made a collage of the 3 quilts made from the quarter log cabins. The one on the left is 60" square and is a finished wallhanging. The one in the center is approximately 60" x 75". I sold it so I don't have it to measure. The one on the right is the largest so they aren't to scale. It is 72" x 87". The one on the left has a lot of dotted fabric scraps left from a quilt that was made of 170 different dotted fabrics. It also has some stripes and some Kaffe prints. The other 2 used the same bins of strips so are very similar.
All impressive to see together. Yesterday was cleaning day here so sewing today. Enjoy today while warmer. Chris
ReplyDeleteI just love that pink and yellow quilt--those colors just sing to me...and the brown/rust/gold samples you showed look great also...love how you blend all those prints...hugs, Julierose
ReplyDeleteWow, what a feast for the eyes today. It has been grey and windy, so all this color is a nice jolt. The one ready for basting is so juicy fresh! I love the new strip combos, the value contrasts are right on.
ReplyDeleteLove the sixteen patch. So colorful.
ReplyDeleteOh my. I agree with Linda. Lots of beautiful eye candy today!
ReplyDeleteThe quilt you are basting is pure yum! I am a Wanda-want-to-be in regards to how much color you can incorporate into a quilt. More is better! The quarter log cabins are wonderful as a group! Amazing what you can do with the same block!
ReplyDeleteI'm so looking forward to see what you do with the Kaffe striped fabric
ReplyDeleteLove the log cabins
I have been to my local garden centre this morning,no Christmas cacti plants this year . Mine died of old age . It was so narled and woody
For the sake of discussion, the second of the three measures approx. 60" x 75" . . .

ReplyDeleteSuch a pretty quilt to be basting on. The inset stripes really make this one so wonderful. And OMG ~ just love those browns, rust, gold etc.
Thank you Wanda for posting all three quilts. Loved seeing your 3 designs all together. Each one so different and yet the same blocks used, just make me smile. You made my day.

Such great inspiration every time I visit here! What a prolific quilter you are!!
ReplyDeleteHi Wanda,
ReplyDeleteI came across your blog by accident, I just wanted to say that I love your quilts. Like you I'm a big fan of Kaffe Fasset Collective fabrics and I really love what you do with them.
Regards,
Suzanne
Prolific! I love the quilts and photo collage of the three works in the half log cabin series! So inspiring!
ReplyDeleteBoth are really pretty, and I will be watching with interest to see what develops with those strips.
ReplyDeleteYou are so impressively productive! And I love everything you make. I probably prefer the two bigger ones of the three similar quilts, but I haven't made up my mind whether it's the different layout or fabrics which make the difference for me.
ReplyDeleteKeek up your inspirational work!
The 16 patch is bright and warm! The gold and browns will be lovely no matter what you do with them!
ReplyDeleteAre you selling these, Wanda??
ReplyDeleteWanda I love the quarter log cabins - well I love everything you do. Are the strips from the log cabins just any small size and you square them up. How big is too big? I have a pile and I'm starting one now. Thanks Candy
