I sewed this batch of strip sets yesterday morning. Some have plain black for the dark strip, some have an African print.
I pressed all of the strip sets from both days and sliced them and sewed them into blocks. This is 16 of the 18 different blocks so far. I sewed all of the duplicate blocks too. I just put them randomly up on the design wall. I need to get more blocks sewn before I get serious on the design wall. There are more colors that aren't represented yet.
I cut more black strips and paired more fabrics to sew today. I will have 64 blocks when I get these done to add to the others. At this point I think I am making 2 quilts.
Love this piece, it is going to be so colorful. I am
ReplyDeletealways on the lookout for a true black, some seem
to look washed out. What fabric do you use?
The photo and fabric of your Father was so special.
Must be a close friend to know what would touch
your heart. It would look great up anywhere I'm sure.
Now here is another one of your quilts that I can absolutely adore!!! You know I have an affinity for African fabrics and this is going to be spectacular!!

ReplyDeleteAnother beauty in the making! I'm curious what you're going to call this one though...the garden at night?
ReplyDeletealways amazing at how the same pattern done in different color/prints can look so different
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderfully rich looking quilt these blocks are going to become! Perhaps this one will be the fall garden?
ReplyDeleteOh wow, this is going to be awesome!
ReplyDeleteThis could be more of a guy quilt with all the rich dark colors.

ReplyDeleteThe African fabrics work so well in those blocks.
ReplyDeleteWanda,
ReplyDeleteSeems like it's been months since I have checked your blog. Wanted to tell you how much I enjoyed your video from your quilt show. It was wonderful seeing you and hearing you describe the inspiration for your art. Also, LOVE art piece you friend did of your dad's photo....what a treasure!
Thanks for all the wonder projects you share!

Wow! The black really makes those blocks POP!
ReplyDeleteI like the black. We have been using a lot of black in quilts lately!
ReplyDeleteThose colours are magnificent, Wanda!
ReplyDeleteI find this quite hilarious since I had thought of making another 16 patch but using blacks instead of lights once I finished my bright one. You beat me to it.
ReplyDeleteStunning.
