We finally got the warm weather that everyone else has been talking about. It was in the 80s. I was going to quilt a quilt but instead I mowed the grass. I did the front in the morning and the back in the afternoon and no hip pain! I got some new running shoes. I don't run but running shoes are comfy and they propel you forward so they were perfect for walking on the bumpy ground behind the mower.
I made 3 pretty wild blocks last night. They won't be next to each other in the quilt.
I added the 3 blocks from last night and the 3 from the night before and rearranged a little. Just 6 more blocks to go. I think I need more red, orange and yellow.....or maybe they need to just be the jewels among all of the blues, greens, and violets.
I was putting some things away in the basement and noticed one box I haven't gone through yet. In it was my 5 year diary given to me by my 6th grade teacher. There were a lot of receipts tucked into the pages and also there were these 3 tickets. They are from one of the years between 1952 and 1956. That was the good old days when you got into a state park for 10 cents each. A leather purse was $1.98.
Those blocks are a bit wild, but they fit beautifully into your design.
ReplyDeleteAh yes, I remember when things were so much less expensive. Gas was 25 cents a gallon- and so was a loaf of bread.
Those 3 blocks are really pretty. I think they look great with the others. It's fun to find stuff from the past.
ReplyDeletethe good old days :)
ReplyDeletelove the blocks! I cut grass too but with a riding lawn mower, I cut a lot more than you I bet, probably about an acre or slightly more.
Wild is good! Will add additional element of touch with the rest of your great blocks.
ReplyDeleteSometimes I miss mowing the lawn. Living in a townhouse now so you give up a few outside things. Most days I don't mind but it was good exercise for me.
I agree-more yellow and orange. Fun quilt!
ReplyDeleteOh those blocks are fabulous, this is really coming alive. Can't wait to see how the blocks pop when you put in the dark sashing. Bet you had a few chuckles from the contents of that box!
ReplyDeleteYeah for the heat!!!! Finally!
ReplyDeleteThat had to be a fun find with all of those little treasures inside. Can we go back to those days?
The stones are looking so good. You are really making great progress on them.
Your collection of blocks are SO beautiful! This quilt is going to be fabulous.
ReplyDeleteLove your work. Been reading for a few months now and enjoy your quilting style. Alice alvgore@nycap.rr.com
ReplyDeleteThe Westminster fabric in your blocks is a favourite of mine
ReplyDeleteYour blocks just keep on getting better. Only six more to go? Can't wait.
ReplyDeleteCan't way to see this all finished.
ReplyDeleteLove the blocks. Not sure about more red, though!
ReplyDeleteI remember in 67-68 paying 17 cents for a gallon of gas. Several girls would pool their change and put a couple of dollars in someones car and we could run around all Saturday night!
Funny! the word verification is economic!
Nan
Your quilt is lookin' good as usual. I love the fabric that you are using. Every time I find something old of mine it sure does bring up some wonderful memories. Sometimes not so wonderful, too. LOL Wouldn't it be nice if gas was so cheap right now. Although salaries were not what they are now either. Maybe we should tuck some memories for our kids to find when we are gone.
