I looked for backings for 2 of the 3 flannel quilts yesterday but couldn't find any one piece large enough for either of them. I have found 2 pieces that don't look too bad together that I can use on one of the quilts but I couldn't make a decision on anything for the other one. I already have the backing chosen for the star flannel quilt. Last night I made 4 more blocks and I'm not too excited about this in batiks. I have seen the quilts with this block done in bright prints, with lots of polka dots and other fun fabrics and also one in all Kaffe fabrics. I think I might just stop at 9 batik blocks and make a small wallhanging or baby quilt and start another in other fabrics. Meanwhile I should start quilting the flannel quilts.
I saw a whole flock of robins in the front yard a few days ago. This one landed among the sparrows eating birdseed off the ground. I didn't think robins were seed eaters but he looked like he was eating with them. I suppose it could be bugs on the ground that he is after. We had snow flurries yesterday that covered the ground and then it warmed up a little and most of it melted. Spring is here!
I like the batiks but it will be fantastic in some bright prints.
ReplyDeleteI don't know if the robins will resort to seeds or not. They usually do eat worms and bugs.
ReplyDeleteWith the Robins back before the ground is thawed they maybe will resort. Chris
ReplyDeleteWe've seen lots of robins migrating through our area the last two or three weeks. I guess they're reaching you now. We're supposed to have a high in the 80s today.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful blocks, as usual! I have yet to see a robin around here, so I think you are a little bit ahead of us.
ReplyDeleteI like the blocks alot. Agree with you that batiks not well suited for them.
ReplyDeleteRobins eat seed when they need more fuel than bugs available.
ReplyDeleteThey say bluebirds don't eat seed, but they do. They come to my feeders when creepy-crawlie population.
I think the brights would be more fun in that design too.
ReplyDeleteYeah spring!!! I love seeing the birds return.
These are very unique blocks and have great potential, I know you will get back to them with a grand idea.
ReplyDeleteReally interesting to see mr. robin eating seeds. Who knew ? But yes spring is here, even the mountain robins have arrived and they are predicting some snow this weekend.

These are pretty, Wanda. I've seen those quilts you're talking about, too, and I am crazy about that look, but I think this could really give the pattern a different dignity that I haven't run across. 9 blocks will surely tell !
ReplyDeleteOur robins never left central KY this year. Had them in the yard on New Years Day! I've been worried about where they are finding worms and they don't eat at my feeders -- but apparently they can clear a holly tree in just hours. Descend on them in a flock and all the berries are gone!
ReplyDeleteI think you may be right about the batik in the X blocks. Nothing really pops. Kaffe would be fantastic.
ReplyDeleteI wish Spring would arrive here! We just keep getting one snow storm after another; it's snowing again today with more forecast for Monday. I'm about 90 miles East of the Twin Cities, and our snow depth on the ground is somewhere around 14-18". The robins better stay in your neck of the woods where they can find the seed on the ground!
ReplyDeleteYour work from the past few days is wonderful. Those flannel quilts are so rich in their colors and these batiks are wonderful.
ReplyDeleteI am going to start watching for robins. Saw some cranes flying overhead this morning so robins should be here soon. Can not wait to hear them sing early in the morning again.
I saw a redwing black bird at my feeder today. C'mom Spring!!
