Still playing with stripes......

I'm having fun looking at the striped fabrics.  I pulled all of the diagonal stripes.  They will give me the look of bias binding while still using straight of grain.  I buy almost all of my stripes on sale without any purpose in mind.
Here is another shot with them spread out a little.  I have almost all of the I Spy/conversation prints boxed up and put on a shelf.  I ended up cutting 3 different size squares for myself.  I have 165 different prints of one size, 61 of another and 173 of the third size.
I am procrastinating on the quilting of my tablerunner because the sewing machine cabinet has too much stuff piled on it right now.  I need to finish the border quilting of the previous project too.  Maybe today I'll get in gear, after my yearly eye check up.

  1. Ah... I am glad you confessed to piling stuff on your sewing table. You make the rest of us not feel so bad!

  2. I have several of the same types of striped fabric as well. I love to find them printed this way, it is so much easier than cutting bias binding... especially when bias binding is not called for on a quilt.

  3. Wow, I've not seen bias stripes. They will make a great binding.
Good luck with your check up!

  4. I have 165 different prints of one size, 61 of another and 173 of the third size.

    O.K. I'll bite - what sizes?

    My common 3 cuts - 2.5, 3.5, & 5
5 & 2.5 play so nicely together (snow ball, stretched star - my go to pattern & the pattern that I start out doing before I decide that stretched star is enough.) & 3.5 works for 2 of my UFOS... (Hexagon & Once Upon A Time.)

  5. I buy stripes on sale, too, without having a plan for them. Sometimes, they are difficult to use up.

BTW, I am using some of my stripes on that zig-zag pattern you had posted a couple weeks ago. I posted some pics and a link crediting you on my blog. Thanks for the great idea, Wanda! I am having so much fun!

  6. LOVE the stripes!!! I hope you can see well enough after the exam. I always hate those fuzzy hours right afterwards.

  7. My Oh My! Confessions of a true Quilter. We buy things because we like them and we have piles where they shouldn't be. Glad I am not the only one. They are bright and cheery looking. Good luck on the eye exam. Cloudy day incase of dialation. Chris

  9. You have displayed your stripes even better for today's post. They just 'pop' off the screen.

Montana is sending you some snow your way. We are sharing our early winter stuff. Don't know if it will make it all the way to IL. but the storm sure is trying.

Not even a frost here in the valley but the Northern high country got dumped on.

  11. I love your stripes. In the past I have purchased stripes for the same reason and have quite a collection; however, I really do prefer bias binding on my quilts so I have stopped purchasing them. Still fun to look at though.

It will be fun to see what you do with your I-Spy fabrics and how you make your quilt(s). I am sure it will not be an ordinary quilt. :)

  13. For some reason I don't have a lot of stripes. I guess I don't have a good handle on how to use them effectively and how much I'd need. How much do you buy of a stripe when you're buying it for stash?

  14. I have added quite a few striped fabrics to my small stash -- I have no idea what I will do with them but I'm thinking a project bag made with hexagons might be a fun idea!
