Yesterday was the first day I met my goal of cutting 40 fabrics in one day for the kits. I'm up to 175 pieces now and have about 14 more pieces chosen. The last 11 are the critical choices to fill in the gaps. I am doing this test piece 14 pc. x 14 pc. which uses 196 of the 200 pieces in the kit. As I have mentioned before I consider this kit a starter pack to add your own fabric stash pieces to.
My wastebasket by my studio cutter is full. I will go through the scraps and cut off any larger usuable pieces before I pitch the rest. On second thought maybe I should save those skinny pieces and do some weaving for fabric postcards. Maybe I need my head examined because there is still plenty of yardage to play with on the shelves.
I don't always get the pile of fabric centered over the die and that leaves a wider edge occasionally. I think I can use those pieces in my mini quilts like the ones I made last month.

That is pretty impressive... 40 fabrics in one day. The studio cutter is a HUGE help in making this goal, I know!!
WOW! That is a whole lotta cutting! The "mock-up" looks fabulous, I will want to order a kit when they are ready to go for sure...Julierose
I honestly don't know how you stay so focused. The heat has definitely lowered my productivity level.
I don't know.....I might have a hard time throwing those scraps away. Seems that there is always an opportunity to use things like that.
I line my wastebasket with a piece of (undesirable)fabric that has been sewn on 2 sides, with the fold on the bottom, giving it the shape of a trash bag. All teeny fabric scraps, batting scraps, cut off threads, etc. go into it and when it is full I just sew the top edge closed and have a perfect pet pillow to donate to the local humane society. I took several into the center last week and they were well received!
You are soooo productive. I couldn't even think of cutting 40 fabrics in this heat, so I went to the beach. Love those fabrics, by the way. And also your lime green plant from yesterday.
I know that I would not be throwing those batik selvages away! I can see more than a few beautiful projects in that garbage can!
Wow! It's funny how the ugly one sticks up in the basket, but the wall looks great. I love what you did with snippets last time, but like you, I have to remember there is a lot of fabric to use up before it's left to be sold at a garage sale!
You've got scads of good scraps there. The woven postcards sound intriguing.
Beautiful fabrics. No, I wouldn't throw those scraps away either! Are you using an accu-cutter to cut your squares?
You are not crazy -- there's something so VERY enticing about the jumble of strings and cut edges. An open invitation to dig in and play.
You always do such fabulous things with the smallest of pieces. I know that these will be put to great use too.
I always enjoy your quilts and projects. Love your flowers and bird pictures too. I have done several colorwash quilts in the past and have several drawers full of squares for more. I've noticed you don't use much yellow in yours. Any particular reason why? Your productivity is amazing!
You have really been busy Wanda! I seem to have a hard time throwing away scraps of batiks and your beautiful mini quilts would be perfect for the scraps.
so much color. Its looking good.
I could not see myself throwing away those scraps either. Something would be done with those.
Even the scraps in your wastebasket are pretty to look at.
Oh, Wanda, I do the same thing. I love using the Go cutter, but there is waste if I'm not extra careful. Then I feel I MUST use those bits. And that is how my string pile keeps growing.
OOOOOH Wanda.... Please don't throw away all those lovely selvages and thin strips! I make woven and fused notebook covers with mine(among other things....) If you want to stuff them in an envelope and send them to me I'd pay postage -- or trade some hand dyed fabric!!
Ellen you are a noreply with no link to an email. How can I get ahold of you? I have an email link on my right sidebar.
