They say the way you start a new year will set a trend for the way you will spend that year. I started a new year yesterday. It was my birthday so I spent the first day of the next (new) year of my life quilting, as in finishing some projects. I will show each of them after the binding is on. I have shown them before so they aren't new tops. This one was about 48" square and I started with it. I haven't decided what binding to use on this one yet.
This one was next and I think it is about 34" square. I cut the binding from the leftover backing strips and I'll finish the binding by machine. I'm considering all three of these quilts to be baby quilts.
I haven't quilted for awhile so I thought 3 styles of quilting would loosen me up and remind me what I'm doing. The spirals on this one got pretty funky by the time I finished it. I also cut the binding for this one from the leftover backing fabric. I think this one was about 32" x 40" so it is a small baby quilt. I thought I would have time to load one more quilt on the frame but I either hadn't sewn the backing seam or didn't have batting cut for the next few choices. I did get the backing for one of the crosses quilts sewn. Now I have to decide if I'm going to meander on it or do ditch quilting that outlines the crosses.
I'm sorry I let the day go by without wishing you all the best on your special day. What a great way to spend your birthday! Now you have only... isn't it 47?... tops left to quilt. Just think what wonderful things are yet to come in this next year with a start like that!! Sarah
It's always fun when I look at someone else's quilt and realize, "I have that fabric!" In this case, it's the blue batik that is the border in the first quilt you show in today's post. I've hoarded and loved and used bits of that fabric in various of my own quilts for years. Hooray for common threads!
Love the pink batik one! I'm sure I have plenty to throw that one together, including most of the ones you used. Happy Belated Birthday! Don'r stop celebrating yet!
Belated birthday wishes, Wanda! It sounds like you had a good day. I love all 3 of your quilts; my favorite is the log cabin. I have become very partial to log cabin quilts. I can't wait to see the finished quilts.

I'm a beginner quilter and seem to be matching your love of Kaffe Fassett fabrics. Totally out of my usual love of pastel colors, I'm enjoying working with the brighter colors. Always looking forward to your postings, learning a lot from you.
My birthday is also the day that I set new resolutions and such instead of Jan 1. I hope you had a great birthday and you sure kicked it off productively!
I had never thought of a birthday as starting a new year. But you are so right. I wish I would have realized that a few weeks ago. (*._,*) I would have worked on a better start to my new year. So I will begin today.
You do a wonderful job quilting on your machine. I know it is all computerized but still you have to know how to run the machine.
Happy Belated Birthday! The quilts are great and I love how you approached your birthday as the start of a new year. I have never thought of it that way. My birthday is in Oct and maybe that is why I always get the urge to clear out clutter in the fall and reorganize things. For a fresh start to the year maybe. Interesting.
I quite often learn something from your blog, and today I learned about the resolution to spend your birthday the way you want to spend the coming year. Great idea! I'm going to do that myself this Sunday and spend the day in my sewing room (and not feel guilty about it!).

I hope you have a wonderful year filled with many good times spent with family and friends. I am going to look forward to seeing more of your Exuberant Color in the year ahead.
