Catching up........

Several weeks ago I started these 19 pillowcases for our church project (domestic abuse center gifts) but I still had the labels to sew in and the last seam to sew on all of them.  I finally finished them yesterday.  Most of the fabric was donated by 3 of my friends (thanks!).  I added the solid color poly/cotton fabric from my 1980s collection.  I have a couple other projects I need to work on and get it all delivered next Sunday.

I have a hard time making snowball blocks accurate but these 3 quilts in Kaffe books keep calling my name.
On this one the corners are many different colors of his shot cottons.  This quilt is using mostly his early prints from over 10 years ago.  I just happen to have most of them but I rarely make a quilt just like his.
On this one all of the corners are the same fabric.  I like the floral fabrics in the blocks but don't care for the prints used in the center panel and its borders.  I'm not sure if I would add that in there anyway but it intrigues me enough that I'll probably look through my fabrics and see what I would like in the center, just in case.........

  1. I use the square on the corners of a block and make the snowball blocks. Sewing diagonal across the smaller square will make the right seam. Not sure how you make them. Have fun with this quilt. Chris

  3. I don't care for his centre panel either!

Over the last couple of days I have started the basis of five scrappy quilts: four patch, nine patch, strings, improv and Wonky Windows (a variation of square on square, which is, of course, a variation of Log Cabin) - I am quite pleased with my progress! See Saturday's post!! (sounds like a magazine advertisement LOL)

  5. I've never made a snowball quilt, but I've heard other quilters say it's not as easy as it looks like it should be. I'm looking forward to seeing what you come up with.

  6. I love the leafy snowball quilt! The colours are so gorgeous! Can't wait to see your version. I'm busy making the "Chintz" snowball quilt at the moment, I've chosen a different print for the center panel, I'm using Philip Jacob's Floral Burst in duckegg instead, as the colours are a lot softer and natural. Although I do like the duckegg silhouette rose print in the frame, I'm not too sure of the pink persimmons border. I will have to test it out first.

  9. You are gonna have fun with the snowball quilt! I made the quilt in the last photo but, like you, wasn't sure I wanted the middle panel/border. I eventually decided to leave it out and I was much happier with my result. It's one of my favorite quilts. Can't wait to see yours.

Congrats on getting so many pillowcases done. You do so much for your community!

  10. Lovely pillow cases, I am sure they will bring a smile to those in need.

I get dizzy just thinking about trying to make one of those snowball quilts. Indeed it is for you professional quilter's.

  12. I tried snowball blocks early on, and could not seem to get them to be "just right" ... if I ever do them, they will NOT be high contrast, just in case!

  13. I'm not crazy about the center panel either, but I think that the rest of the quilt is gorgeous. Can't wait to see your version. I've never made a snowball quilt, so I'll enjoy watching your progress. Sounds like you've gotten motivated again!

  15. Those pillowcases are terrific. How do you manage to do so many things? I have never made a snowball quilt, but now I get to make one vicariously through you!

  16. I don't know what it is about snowball blocks but I just can't seem to make myself sew all those squares on the corners. I did make a quilt that had a square on point fused over the intersections that gave the same effect. Much easier too!

  18. I have a hard time making snowball blocks accurate

This phrase is one that I never thought I would hear from you!
I have a snow ball in my future using Taupes...

Normally when I set out to do snow balls, I quit at the stretched stars point... Half the work...
