The blocks are from 2008. I think they have aged enough so I am going to sew them together. Here is the post where I was playing with them originally. I finally gave away the blocks that I didn't like very well and just kept my favorites. I decided to try this wonky stripe as the vertical dividers and I like it. I was thinking about outside borders but I could just bind it in the same stripe and it might look finished. I'll look at it again later today and decide. I have to take my dad to the Dr. this morning and the lady who owns the assisted living house is going along to talk to the Dr.
I finished cutting jeans squares for the 3 quilts and divided the corduroy and plaid squares into groups that looked good together. All 3 of the quilts are just going to be 8" squares and maybe a border if I want them to be larger.
The 2008 blocks are wonderful, bright, and vibrant. I think your idea of the wonky strip as sashing and binding is perfect for them - no border needed. Hope everything goes well with your Dad.
I LOVE these blocks and their colors. I was sitting and staring at them wondering if they are all the same blocks. The value placement in some of them makes them appear like a different block.
wanda, do you do anything special to reduce the lumpy bulk of a corduroy quilt? press the seams open? leave out the batting? or use something lighter, such as flannel, instead of batting? or does the quilting mash it down enough so that it's not lumpy? ... I love the black and white against the color on those triangle blocks!
you are always busy!! I don't think I have any old blocks anywhere to play with. I usually just make what I need. I did get 10 blocks finished last night for a change now that we are back to a full site hook up area! Electricity is so nice :) Karen http://karensquilting.com/blog/
Those blocks are 'Timeless' . If you continue playing with them I know your final design will be awesome.
Flannel, corduroy, denim... how cozy can you get ? Sounds good to me as we are into cold rainy autumn days. We did send our warm temps your way and I see by the 'AccuWeather' Sandwich is enjoying them now.
Love the colors of those old blocks. Great way to 'modern up' the traditional block. The black and white makes them pop and adds a place for the eye to go if the brain says overload.
That must by why I haven't finished some of my stuff! It hasn't AGED enough. Thank you for helping me to understand! (chuckle) I love the blocks and the stripy fabric is great with it...I would never have thought of that! Take care..
Great blocks. Lots of color. It is wonderful that you can cut all those squares with your dye cutter. It sure saves on aches pains in the shoulders and elbows doesn't it.
I've been studying these wonderful blocks, and they're making me think of Rice Krispies. The segments of color seem to snap, crackle, and pop. Your placement of the HSTs takes our eyes to the center pinwheels, then moves our eyes outward to a star, and then we move to the outside twinkling colors. The sashing is a great complement to the movement in this top. Once again, Wanda, it's a superb quilt.
I like the way that different parts of the blocks stand out; the pinwheel is very obvious in the top right block but almost disappears in the top centre block. The eight pointed star is nore obvious in the top centre block but the X is more obvious in the top right, etc! What fun!!

ReplyDeleteLove the stripes!
ReplyDeleteAnd I love that you said the blocks have aged enough. I think I have some that must be the equivalent of fine wine. Or vinegar!
