More fair quilts......

Here is one more grand prize winner I forgot yesterday.

After I took this one I realized I didn't get all of the butterfly quilt in the photo.  It is made of handkerchiefs.
I think it is the best use of handkerchiefs that I have seen so far on a quilt.  I'm not sure if I want to make one like it but I have the handkerchiefs if I did want to.
This one is even prettier when you see it in person.  I like all of the hand embroidery on it.
I saw something moving out of the corner of my eye as I walked by the kitchen window.  The coneflower seeds are ready to be eaten.

  1. The butterfly quilt is a really good use of the hankies. The birds are going nuts here like they are starved. The Hummingbirds are frantic to get enough to go on their flight. Robins are scarce so Fall is coming. Chris

  2. Hi Wanda,
Nice shots of the quilts at your fair. Are some of the quilts made by former students?

The butterfly hankie quilt is unique, too. Someone did nice work; I can't tell if the butterflies were sewn down by machine or by hand.

    Take care.

  3. Aren't quilt fairs fun? My cone flowers are reaching the same stage as yours. Our yard is filled with birds every day and evening now. some are getting ready to fly south.

I have many of my Grandmother's scarves and hankies, and would love to find a way to use them in a quilt. Making butterflies of them is one idea I'll have to think about.

Are any of the lovely fair quilts yours?

  11. I love the butterfly handkerchief quilt also. I have many of my Mom's crocheted edged ones that I have been saving to do something with and this is a great idea. Thanks for taking pictures of the quilts. I feel as if I was there taking it all in.
