The nice thing about cutting large prints in layers is that you get many different looks from them. With the seashell print I can use one as a light center and one as a dark center. The mum print has all different looks so I can use 3 if not all 4 of them. Notice the stripe in the top left pieces.......
I have used that print once before in a different colorway but cut it crosswise. It has been bothering me and I think it will get pulled out of the mix.
I wondered what it would look like if all of the edge diamonds were the same fabric. Then I have to decide if they will all have the same sashing fabric on them or a variety of fabrics. So many options.....
I visited Dad at his assisted living house yesterday and he seems happy. He was talkative and got tears in his eyes when I was leaving. I saw him last Friday and he was very unhappy that day which made me very unhappy too. I'm glad to see the change. He likes the home cooked food there so I hope he'll gain back some of the weight he lost.
Yes, I was just working on a quilt and thought the same thing about the outside piece having the same color and then decided to go with the randomness. The look of your diamond quilt is beautiful! Glad that your Dad is feeling better about where he is. I am sure that it is very difficult for both of you.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad your dad is settling into the assisted living place... and that he enjoys the home cooking!
ReplyDeleteYour quilt top is looking more and more gorgeous each day... the seashells are so cool!
I am glad that Dad is getting acclimated to the Assisted Living.
ReplyDeleteI like the piece you are thinking of removing..but you usually know best!
It all looks beautiful to me. I was surprised to see how big they are. I was picturing a much smaller diamond. I'm glad your dad is doing well, but it has to hard on you when he tears up when you're leaving.
ReplyDeleteI'm just going to have to make a diamond quilt sometime just from being inspired by yours. Beautiful! Glad you Dad was having a good day also. It hurts our hearts to see our parents suffer - I know.
ReplyDeleteI love how this is coming together. I'm really in a slump right now and these pictures are very inspiring.
ReplyDeleteGlad to here your Dad is doing better.
the quilt is looking wonderful. Glad your father is getting settled in - I it is a strain on us when our parents get elderly - our rolls reverse so much and it is hard to deal with at times.

What a great bunch of diamonds you have going on there! I'll bet it would be pretty, though, very different, with all having the same borders.
ReplyDeleteGlad your Dad is happier. Food is very important at any age. Poorly prepared food is just not helpful when you're trying to get better. Most hospital food is a good example of the poor kind.
So many options indeed. This is coming along beautifully. Love the pattern, it's the only one - so far - that I have made from my book. Glad your dad is settling in.
ReplyDeleteI like the idea of the same fabric for the diamonds around the perimeter of the quilt. Whatever you decide to do with the outer edge, it is going to be an absolutely stunning quilt.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad your dad is settling in, although it must be very hard on you when he tears up when you're about to leave.
I have enjoyed watching the diamonds grow. They just dazzle with exuberant color ! Love them !
ReplyDeleteGood to hear you found your Dad in better spirits yesterday. I sure know the emotions that go along with him living in assisted living facility.

I'm please to hear that your dad was happier the last time you visited!
ReplyDeleteI love watching you work on your blocks - but I think I've already said that! ;-)
