After what felt like a long dry spell to me, I have quilted 3 quilts and totally finished 2 of them. I finally figured out that I dreaded pulling out the roll of batting and cutting the pieces I need. I solved that problem by cutting the batting for 8 quilts all at once so there should be some more finishes this month.
My backing is a piece I bought on sale at a store going out of business about 8-9 years ago. I split it with a friend who also made her zig zag with gray fabrics. I finished the binding by machine, stitched on the front to catch the flap of binding in the back. I'm not crazy about the unevenness of it, but this is a quilt that will be used and washed a lot.
Today: Art quilters group, cookies, show and tell, fun, fun, fun!
I love your zigzag quilt... the colors really pop with the grays... congratulation on your finish!
ReplyDeleteI'm chuckling about not wanting to pull out the roll of batting... good on your for cutting out several pieces while you had it out!
This quilt just turned out beautifully! I love every bit of it. The backing was just perfect too. Have a terrific day with your quilting buddies!
ReplyDeleteI know the feeling when a quilt is ready... pride, relief, and the question: what is next?
ReplyDeleteBeautiful zig zag quilt.
It's good when you can actually figure out what you're dreading. June will be a satisfying month for you! Have a great day.mordst
ReplyDeleteBeautiful finish! I love the backing. Good idea to cut eight pieces of batting at the same time.
ReplyDeleteI still hate to cut binding, but at least it's now faster for me. I found a picture on-line of how someone had rigged a roller for their batting underneath their frame using metal pipe and my husband adapted the idea for my table. It was a relief to no longer have to wrestle the roll out of a corner (where it was in the way), and find an area where I could unroll it before I could begin cutting.
ReplyDeleteYou did a good job on your machine binding.
How wonderful to see things finished!
ReplyDeleteLooks great!
great to have some finishes.

I love the grays in this. I've been wanting to make a gray quilt for a long time and I need to get on with it......after I finish a few more UFOs.
ReplyDeleteThe Zig-Zag quilt came out beautifully! Love the color combination.
ReplyDeleteI'm also loving the quilt shown yesterday!
Thanks for sharing.
Enjoy your Art quilters group and have a couple cookies for me!

Congrats on the finish AND for figuring out what had been hanging you up!
ReplyDeleteThe backing is perfect for the quilt. Just perfect.
Your zig-zag turned out very nice.
ReplyDeleteAre all the Art Quilters as talented as you are ? And produce as many quilts as you do ? Is it an all day gathering?

Congrats on another lovely finish! (You finish more in a month than I do in a year!) Which method of making zig zag quilts do you prefer--this one or the other one you've done with the half-square triangles? Does one have a different advantage than the other (I am planning to make one soon, but trying to decide which method would work best)
ReplyDeleteThat is SO pretty, and what a perfect backing!
ReplyDeleteHi Wanda,
ReplyDeleteThe backing fabric used as a binding worked great! Very refreshing colors.

The quilt is gorgeous! Hope you had fun with your friends today! I get to sew with friends tomorrow!
ReplyDeleteYou have been very busy again, I see. I had a bunch of gift cards from Joann Fabrics so I had to use a bit of them today. Tomorrow onto the next quilt for sure. I think more rain is expected so a good day to sew.
ReplyDeleteWow, when you get going, you really get going! There's always that one thing that is a stumbling block and now that you've identified hauling out the batting is it, you're on your way to lots of finishes!
ReplyDeleteIt looks fabulous and I love that backing!
ReplyDeleteStunning colors!
ReplyDeleteIt's always interesting how one step can stop us in our tracks!
