Quilt delivery and backyard scenes........

Two representatives from the Great Lakes Training Base came to Batavia to pick up some of the QOV quilts.  Each one of the quilts is put in a pillowcase for delivery.  This is a double row of quilts, 50 altogether.

"Chippy" the chipmunk is back again.  He is digging through all of the seed residue under a bird feeder.

Soon after he left a bunny hopped over to see if there was anything left.  In the background is the lid off one of my feeders.  One of the squirrels knows how to get the lids of all 3 feeders, and then she goes in from the top to eat the seed.

The forsythia in the back yard, west side of the house, is blooming.  That is dead grass in the background, no new green grass yet.

The suet feeder was getting some action yesterday afternoon.  I had to get cast iron suet cages and run a chain through them several times or the squirrels will open them too.

  1. Congratulations to your group for finishing all those quilts, what an accomplishment! Just think... at least 50 members of our military will have another reason to know we care about them.

Your Backyardigans are busy as ever - they know it's spring too!

  2. What a terrific turn out for the QOV! They will love them. A ton of action in your yard too. You know we have "Chippy" also?

  4. What a wonderful group of ladies to get all the quilts made and delivered.
I just love doing quilts for others.
You guys get so many pretty birds. What a cheeky squirrel. I don't like the rabbits they eat everything here.

  5. Congratulations on the quilts! Love the pictures that say spring is coming. I have daffodils that are close to opening, but this morning it is cold and we are having rain/sleet/snow stuff right now. It is very overcast and gray. Tough weather even for a daffodil!

  6. My husband and I met when he was in training at the Great Lakes Training Base - 50 quilts ready for them how nice that was. You have a prolific group!!
Nice to see the plants beginning to grow - always nice to know that your spring is coming.

  8. FIFTY quilts ... great job to all who participated!

Love the critters you have captured in your photos. We saw a squirrel in our yard last night - first one in a while (the neighborhood dogs and cats don't like them much).

  9. That is a LOT of quilts for the servicemen! What a blessing your group of quilters is to them. And I love the pictures of your backyard visitors. The forsythia is a memory from my childhood, so thank you for including that. It's sort of "earnest money" to show that Spring is really there, isn't it?

  10. You sure have a smart bunch of squirrels. We must have the dumb ones. Our feeder opens quite easily, and they haven't done it yet, but they will jump off the roof onto the roof of the feeder, and sit on the edge and eat all day, if we'd let them. It's getting harder and harder to scare them off.

  11. Hi Wanda,
That red-bellied woodpecker looks like she is posing for you!

Our squirrels are determined but dumb. Every day they climb the pole to the bird feeders, and when they get to the metal baffle, they turn around and go back down. Every day. They must never give up until they get what they want.

  12. Your group has been sewing up a storm of quilts.

I wish I had only one chipmunk. Living in an area that has many trees and a stream running through the yard brings on many, many chipmunks. They are digging everywhere. Soon the Woodchuck will be out and join the rest of the wild life. My squirrel proof bird feeders are really squirrel proof. There is no way that they can get the food out so far and it has been 2 years now. It was worth the price I had to pay for it.

  13. Pesky squirrels!

Love seeing all those quilts of valor being stacked away and ready to give to a deserving person.

Thanks for all that you do, Wanda!
