In one of the drawers was a little plastic bag of paper pieced squares. I knew they were made at least 15 years ago. In the early to mid 1990's everyone was collecting show pins, guild pins, anything quilt related pins. There was a pattern for a vest that you could make with squares to put all of the pins on and wear them to a quilt show or guild meeting. I'm not sure if this block was meant for a vest or a wall hanging, but I never finished making the blocks. Fortunately I had just enough to cover my 8.5" x 11" Journal Quilt.
I still have a little pile of the papers to piece on, but they will probably get turned over and be used for scratch paper now.
Love it! I have a whole little wallhanging for my pins. Very similar to this. Mine I did out of hand dyes.
ReplyDeleteThat is a great way to show off a collection of pins!
ReplyDeleteVery good idea....and using up those leftovers. Great as always.
ReplyDeletePerspective is an amazing thing -- when I saw the scissors and rotary cutter in the bottom row, I thought that was a huge quilt -- and I couldn't figure out why you'd put your rotary cutter on a quilt!!
ReplyDeleteI love it! I have a collection of pins also and now I know what to do with them! Whenever you get sick of me, stealing your ideas, let me know. But they are such great ideas!
ReplyDeleteHow clever!
ReplyDeleteSo cute! I once had some fabric samples from a fabric line and it came with a pin. I pieced the small fabric swatches (maybe 1 1/2"?) into a very small quilt and once my mom had hand quilted it (she was looking for something to do) I bound it and put the pin on it. Yours will be a fun piece to display and it has a story!
ReplyDeleteNow how cool is that. Keep those litle extra papers. I bet you will come up with a fantastic use for them again some time in the next 15 years, you know how us quilters are! Stash ain't always fabric! hehehe
ReplyDeleteYou are so clever, Wanda! I have a good-sized pin collection too and think this is the perfect way to display it. Thanks for sharing your wonderful ideas, as always!
ReplyDeleteI am SO intrigued by your journal quilts... please share your various ways of finishing them... I have seen you bind them and I have noticed you zig-zag many of them... what is that process, please? Have you ever serged the edges? Any other finishing methods? I would like to have the option of hanging them.... any thoughts?
ReplyDeleteHermoso!!!
ReplyDeleteme encantó.
felicitaciones!!!
What a great little quilt -- and super way to showcase those pins!
ReplyDeleteI have some of the same pins you have. I put some of them on my guild name tag, but I still have a whole drawer full. (I use a library card catalogue cabinent with 72 drawers to store my thread and things.) Anyway, I think I will make a little quilt to display them on. Great idea. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteThis cover is so colorful and interesting. It would be the one we all want a closer look at. I like it. :)
ReplyDeleteand you have one LESS UFO.... keep on....
ReplyDeleteI wasn't a quilter in the 90s but have always been a crafter. I have some silver charms laying around with nothing to do. I think I will make a journal cover like this but using the charms instead of the quilter pins. I wish I would find the stuff you are finding.
ReplyDeleteLove it! Really nice way to save those special pins. Now you can look at them and remember...
ReplyDeleteI like it! It is such a striking piece with lots to tell in a small space.
ReplyDeleteYour post today has triggered a wonderful idea! I'll be sure to link here when I get mine one and post on my blog!
ReplyDeleteThanks!!!
LOVE your journal quilts (all of them! and I love the basket idea for showcasing them!)
