Once again I am using a block from the past. In 1991 (wow, 20 years ago, time flies) I started teaching colorwash classes. I always took samples of colorwash made with different size squares so everyone could see they weren't locked into 1.5",
2" or 2.5" squares. This sample, the 16 squares in the center, used 2" squares. I also have a sample made of 1.5" squares and one made with 1" squares. In all of my larger colorwash pieces I use 2.5" squares. See a lot of my colorwash quilts here.
I like the look of colorwash. It shows a lot of light refractions. I am going to start cutting squares for some experiments soon. Chris
ReplyDeleteThanks Wanda, looking back at your colorwash quilts gave me some great inspiration.
ReplyDeleteLove your journal quilt! In fact, all of your colourwash quilts are fantastic!
ReplyDeleteYour colorwashes are so beautiful! Breathtaking.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful colors in your colorwash, it looks like you put a binding on this one or is it a serged edge?
ReplyDeleteIt is fun to see older, favorite fabrics when we pull out old blocks. I still have some of those, too. Looks like a couple of Hoffmans in there. I liked most of all that you show that it is the value that makes the colorwash quilts work not just the size of the patchwork.
ReplyDeleteYour colorwash quilts are spectacular!
ReplyDeleteVery Nice. I like the transition from darks to lights.
ReplyDeleteThat is a beautiful piece! But then I love all of your colorwash artwork. One of these days I'll be confident enough to try one. You inspire me!
ReplyDeleteI agree...'wow 20 years old', this one is timeless. So refreshing.

In your case color wash is the wrong term... yours is color infused! Just gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteI still love the colorwash quilts. I haven't made one, but I think I may give it a try on a small journal sized piece. Thanks for the inspiration.
ReplyDeleteLove your colorwash. I love to do colorwashes myself. I see some fabrics I have myself in this journal. Roberta
ReplyDeleteIt's nice to parse the quilt and see how it went from 16 square patches to a rectangle. It's a perfect little springtime quilt.
