2011 Journal Quilt 10

Once again I am using a block from the past.  In 1991 (wow, 20 years ago, time flies) I started teaching colorwash classes.  I always took samples of colorwash made with different size squares so everyone could see they weren't locked into 1.5",
2" or 2.5" squares.  This sample, the 16 squares in the center, used 2" squares.  I also have a sample made of 1.5" squares and one made with 1" squares.  In all of my larger colorwash pieces I use 2.5" squares.  See a lot of my colorwash quilts here.

  1. I like the look of colorwash. It shows a lot of light refractions. I am going to start cutting squares for some experiments soon. Chris

  5. Beautiful colors in your colorwash, it looks like you put a binding on this one or is it a serged edge?

  6. It is fun to see older, favorite fabrics when we pull out old blocks. I still have some of those, too. Looks like a couple of Hoffmans in there. I liked most of all that you show that it is the value that makes the colorwash quilts work not just the size of the patchwork.

  14. It's nice to parse the quilt and see how it went from 16 square patches to a rectangle. It's a perfect little springtime quilt.
