Sharing my design walls.......

My friend who lives a couple blocks from me missed the meeting at my house a couple weeks ago so she came over yesterday with her hexagons that have been cut on an Accuquilt studio cutter.  They are about 5" across I think.  I didn't measure them.  She also loves Kaffe Fassett fabric like I do so she got to see my whole collection.  It was so much fun to talk to someone who also knows the names of most of the prints like I do.
Already at 8 a.m. lot of questions about sewing the hexagons.  They aren't mine, they are my friend's.  They can be machine sewn with care.
While she was here I finished unpicking seams on all of the loops that I had sewn for the green Trip Around the World.  Last night I sewed the last strata, pressed it and sewed the last seam to make it into a tube.

Then I sliced it while I watched the 10 o'clock news.

Now I can unpick the last 15 strips and finish sewing the quilt top together.

  1. I like how she has a "flower" just suddenly appear in this arrangement of hexes. I'm also anxious to see this latest TATW in real light.

  3. Love the hexagons on your wall! Even as it is, it is a joyful picture. Do you machine-piece these hexagons? I used to think this is a hand-sewing pattern...

  4. I would also like to know if you can machine stitch the hexagons. I love how they are displayed. I have a hexigon quilt in the making for years but not happy with the arrangement so I stopped working on it and mine is all hand sewn.

  6. For a second I thought you were piecing hexagons!
I too can't wait to see the green quilt -- green is so appealing right now!

  7. I am also curious as to how those hexies are going to be sewn together. Your TAW is coming along nicely. Can't wait to see it completed.

  10. It must be wonderful to have a friend with the same love for KF fabrics!!! Her hexies look great. That is going to be quite the job sewing those together.

  11. Love those hexies! I love KF fabrics too and am lucky to have a LQS that carries his fabrics. I don't have too many in my stash currently. I aim to change that a little at the end of the week as the shop is having a good sale!

  14. Hi...I'm the hexagon lady, Sue. Wanda was so helpful yesterday...I had a blast looking at her wonderful KF projects and chatting. Anyway, many of you are asking about the piecing of these. I have an idea on how to piece them (sewing machine), but haven't tried yet. Thanks for all the nice comments.

  15. Hi Wanda,
Love those green/teal strip sets. It would be fun treat to see a live trunk show of your special quilts.

I'm not motivated to delve into hexagons (yet) but your friend's hexes are sure pretty.

p.s. we got about 6 inches out of that snow/ice mix on Sunday. Horrible to drive in (the ruts in the roads finally melted this afternoon).

  16. I likey likey likey your friend's hexagons. Not just because they are Kaffe Fasset fabrics, but I also like the jumbled look with the random flowers popping up.
