If you were reading my blog when I started this quilt, you might remember that I had this taupe brown chosen for a border.
I turned the top sideways for its photo shoot last night. This is it with just one border. I also considered no border and using this brown fabric as a half inch wide binding.
Then I tried it with my favorite fabric that is in the piecing as a second border. (Click for a larger view.) I think I like this better. It is 62.5" x 85.5" right now. It is going to end up a twin size if I add 2 borders instead of the large lap size I originally thought I was making.
I agree with you Wanda, I think your favorite fabric really brings out the colours of the quilt while just the plain brown seems to just sit there. I like the use of the brown as a small inner border. Another spectacular quilt Wanda, thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteI agree! The last option is best. The small dark border stops the pattern, then the print melds the colors. Lovely.
ReplyDeleteThe last one is definitely my personal favorite. I always like a thinner inner border to frame it up and then the larger outer border. This will look fantastic!
ReplyDeleteThe third one gets my vote too! What will you use as a binding?
ReplyDeletetoday's word is ounio - as in "oh, you know!"

I have to agree with the rest. The 2 borders puts a nice punch in it!
ReplyDeleteI am not going along with everyone else because I am a followere, but I have to choose that one because it looks the best. Love that fabric!
ReplyDeleteAs always, you are right on about the border selection. Sometimes the fabric speaks and we have to listen:)
ReplyDeleteHi Wanda,
ReplyDeleteLove the two-border choice with your favorite fabric. The first choice is just a border -- no zing.
Love that wavy stripe you used in the piecing, too. I didn't notice it the first time around.
Keep warm with the Arctic blast this week!

I like the lighter brown also. Good choices as usual. You pick color so well.

The quilt will look great finsihed.
ReplyDeleteYou have such an eye for color.

Plan three is my choice too. It will look even more stunning with plan three...
ReplyDeleteWish I could see this in person. I like number 3 too. Hannah
ReplyDeleteIf you're going to go with a border then the last option is definitely my favourite. Seems to be the popular choice. Maybe it's because that medium tone is less jarring with the lighter tones in the quilt
ReplyDeleteI like the 2nd choice better too... it's more 'finished' and looks like it's ready for a SHOW! Even if the show is on a twin size bed! Lovely.
ReplyDeleteI love your second border fabric. It's very beautiful. Can you share the name, manufacturer, color, etc.?
ReplyDeleteLove your last choice and I would bind it with the brown too. This is a beautiful quilt!
ReplyDeleteIt just shimmers, Wanda. That's fascinating.
ReplyDeleteBorders always slow me down.....I have to almost toss a coin sometimes to make a decision.
You've pieced this in rectangular cuts haven't you? I like that for making the quilt come out longer than it is wide.
I like what you chose. It makes your eye travel all through the quilt and back. Great choice!
ReplyDeleteWanda, I truly love the second border with this quilt. It just makes the beautiful colors in the quilt pop even more. The brown is okay too, though. It would depend on the decor of the room, maybe? You have such good instinct, that I don't think you'll go wrong.
ReplyDeleteI like the last choice the best, too. But then my philosphy is always "Less is less and more is better." So perhaps I'm not the best judge.
ReplyDeleteYes, I definitely like the narrow brown and the second border added. Prettier.
ReplyDeleteI've given up picking borders till the top is done as what I think will be good never is! The two borders together look good, the dark brown by itself was too boring. My quilts usually turn out larger than I think they will too! :-)
ReplyDeleteMy original border plans almost always fall through, so I'm glad to see it happens to people with a lot more experience than I have. I think it's really hard to understand the impact of the quilt until it's close to being done.
ReplyDeleteYes, yes, yes ! I agree with you I LOVE your favorite. It is perfect for this quilt. The double border makes this piece glow.

I agree. The last border choice really makes the quilt center pop. Great choice.
ReplyDeleteI guess I'm the minority opinion. I don't like either border but I do like that thin dark inner border. Could you just bind it with that and let the trip speak for itself? I kind of feel like the wide borders detract from the actual trip piecing. Just my humble opinion.
ReplyDeleteAgain...I could just sit on your blog....LOVE IT!
ReplyDeleteyes I also agree it looks better with both colors.
