After shoveling there is playtime........

I measured the snow on my sidewalk before I shoveled and it was 11".  I had shoveled off 4" the afternoon before.  I didn't measure anywhere else I'm not sure what our official snowfall was for our town.

I needed to do some prep work for my class on Saturday, that is if the weather cooperates.  I was anxious to see how the greens were going to look anyway.  I can see that my green stripe could have been in a different position, but I like it anyway.

I have been going through all of my Kaffe Fassett books looking for more inspiration and I was getting tired of lugging the heavy books around.  I decided to make a color copy of the ones I am interested in and then I can make notes on the bottom margins or on the backs.  Since he repeats some of his quilts in more than one book, but with different fabrics, I started checking measurements of the pieces.  On the snowball block they are different in 2 of the books so I'm making note of both sizes.  When I pull the fabrics out I want to cut for more than one quilt at a time after taking the time to press the fabric before cutting.

This is my neighbor's garage.  I thought the snow looked like frosting dripping over the edge.  The sun is supposed to shine all day today too, like it did yesterday so I'm sure this snow will change shape.  We're not supposed to even get up to 10 degrees today.  Texas was colder than Illinois yesterday.  It has been a strange winter all over the country.

  1. I totally love seeing those greens! I totally dig those Kaffe quilts you made the color copy of. Very clever. Also, I didn't know he repeats some of his quilts in more than one book. Of course, I only have one book so I wouldn't! :) Your accuweather widget says it's -9 right now. Brrrr... cold.

  2. The quilt copies really can be a help. I am always trying to carry the book of magazine and I have a bulletin board behind where my machine is. I could make a copy and pin it up. thanks for the thought. Chris

  4. We had fifteen below this morning after having between 18 and 20 inches of snow in the storm. It was drifted so heavily I couldn't even get out of the garage. The drifts there were 28 inches deep and extended 18 feet out.

All I wanted to do was sew but all I did was shovel.

  5. The snow is over and we are shoveled out but now it is really cold. The greens look perfect and I like the stripe. Is this sample the actual size of the quilt you will teach or do you use smaller pieces for it?

I can see why you chose those Kaffe Fassett pages that you like. I like them too.

  10. The green project looks great...I love the color green.
As for the snow...good brief...I live near Dallas/Ft. Worth with all the ice and drama....this type of weather is so unusual for this area of Texas that most of us are stunned and frozen....LOL

  12. I'm glad you had someone to plow the snow for you. What a heap of snow!!

I agree with everyone else, those greens are great! I love the Trip Around the World.

My quilting group is getting together to cut up scraps for the Kaffe Fassett Quilt that is the strip pieced diamonds. Right now we are in the cutting stage and next week we get together with all of our strips and mix and match. I've been cutting and cutting so I'll have a respectable offering. I'm interested to see how all the quilts turn out.

    Stay warm.....

  13. Copies of favorites out of books and magazines makes great sense. Sometimes I create a page of 6 or 8 quilt photos, just as a condensed reminder of some of the projects that are on my bucket list. That list in words alone just isn't the same, and I forget what they look like.
We lucked out with only 3-4" of snow this time, but the temp went down to -12 last night, and wind chills for a couple days have been brutal.

  14. Stay warm ... it is cold here but surely NOT as cold as it is at your house!

Great snow photos (yes, it is hard to capture with a camera).

    Enjoy your colors!
