I sorted through a lot of pieced units in my 'parts' bin looking for more to use for journal covers. I cut a bunch of the fusible fleece into the size I need too.
This is the next candidate I will work on. It needs 2 end pieces which will be the inside flaps.
I cut a piece of suede fabric, an ultrasuede look alike, to mount my 'too small' cover on. I realized after I got it all sewn on and the notebook slipped in that all I would have needed is suede strips at the top and bottom, not a complete lining. It does have a lot of body though and I like the way it feels. Real ultrasuede is anywhere from $42 to $56 a yard. I have a lot of it but I also have a few of the imitations. If I am going to sell any of these journals the real thing would make them too expensive if I do full linings. More to contemplate......
I also worked on the pillowcase kits for our church sewing circle for Monday. It takes a long time to wash and iron all of the fabric, cut it and then coordinate the 3 pieces that make the pillowcase. I also press the narrow band in half for each and baste it to one edge of the cuff. Now we will see if the weather cooperates so that I can even get there. We had rain most of the day yesterday with a little sleet thrown in for fun. Then comes the snow...........
Wonderfull colour combination. I like it is.
ReplyDeletethey all look great - so the notebook covers are to sell not for gifts, yes the Ultrasuede is a bit pricey!

I too love your colour combinations :)
ReplyDeleteHi Wanda,
ReplyDeleteYour journal covers are gorgeous as usual. Guess it's just like a cookie recipe you make over and over; you still need to glance at the ingredient amounts now and then just in case (I usually goof up when I'm too tired).
Keep that snow shovel handy!

It's fun to make things work, isn't it? I hate waste, so seeing things that a lot of people would have thrown out put to good use just makes me happy. Those are bot so pretty, even so far. Stay warm!
ReplyDeleteI love the color combinations you're using, they're gorgeous! Sometimes for some funny reason, I see something I like but if I try to recreate it, it doesn't work. Who know why?
ReplyDeleteKaren, I like your reverse applique tutorial, I haven't tried it yet but you make it look very easy!

Do you have enough buyers already? If not, add me to the list . . . I keep meaning to make some of these for myself and just never get it done.
ReplyDeleteWhat a glorious box of "parts" you've shown!
Wanda, Last year, I gifted many friends with your lovely journals and they're still raving about them!
ReplyDeleteI am using your journal tutorial to make a gift for a friend. I didn't think you had quilted them. But this new purple one is quilted, right? Are they all quilted and I didn't notice?
ReplyDeleteLove these journal covers!
ReplyDeleteJudy Cloe, I have no way to contact you so hopefully you will check back.
ReplyDeleteYes they are ALL quilted.
I too love your journal covers. A small project that all of us can do. BUT ~~~ I wish I had your stash to select from. "Next candidate" shown on todays post is another fun one. All will sell like 'hot cakes'.

After looking at what looks like a TUB spilling out the fabric, I am heading to K-Mart tomorrow -- I need bigger stash tubs!!!
ReplyDeleteA Parts Bin! I love it. Mine wouldn't be so big. I tend to use up my leftover "parts" by making orphan blocks or crumb blocks. A parts bin almost looks like more fun. I think I'll do that for a while. Thanks Wanda.
