It was a blustery day..............

We missed out on the big snow but what little we had was drifting on the streets and country roads.  40 mph winds.  I stayed home and continued making purple journal covers.  The one on the right is quilted in the ditch.

One more purple one and then I'll switch colors.  I got the lining sewn on after I took the photo so it is ready to quilt.

I did switch thread once when I ran out of purple bobbin thread and had just finished one of the purple covers.  I used a variegated thread on this one and did the randomly spaced lines of quilting.

I found some little notebooks with a floral pocket folder in front of the pages to write on.  All of the notebooks in this group are the 5" x 7" size.

Our church sewing circle cancelled today.  It is supposed to be about 10 degrees and very windy again.  Most of us are in the senior age bracket and none of us want to slip on ice and break a bone.  I would hate to have car trouble on a day that cold too.  We had enough pillowcases done to deliver the first load anyway and we will continue on them in January and maybe February.  Our goal is to give 100 to the domestic abuse shelter.

  2. What a wonderful way to spend a not so nice day! We had tons of rain here and it was 50 degrees. Very unseasonable. But if the rain were snow we would have been buried. Love all the journal covers! Very nice project for the pillowcases.

  3. the notebook you show with the flowers really looks great with that cover. I can understand the quilt group canceling with weather like that - we woke up to 18degrees this morning and I said oh is that all it is - they said it would be 10 degrees so 18 seems warm compared to that :)

  4. I see your weather gadget says it's made it down to 7 degrees. That's cold by any standard. Stay warm.

Your journal covers are really pretty.

  5. I have been wanting to make some journal covers also. Need to look for the notebooks first. Granddaughter would like one. She is into office and stationery type things and likes to write things down. Good stocking stuffer. Thanks Chris

  6. The journal covers are wonderful! In reading your post today I just had a lightbulb moment. For our companies xmas project we are collecting items for the battered women's shelter. The light went on when I read about the pillowcases. I now need to make some this week to donate to the cause. We are having a company luncheon on Friday, so I need to get them done to take to the home office on Friday. Something else to add to the list!

  8. Your journal covers are beautiful! I love the purples -- very warm and rich looking, almost like velvet!

  10. That was probably a wise decision to cancel, and it's much nicer to stay safe and warm in your own house on a day that cold. It's cold here, too, for us - slightly below freezing. I'm sending Christmas pacakges off today. The sun is shining, so it will warm up later.

Those journal covers are so pretty. They're on my mental list of things I want to do.

  11. Love the journal covers. Another project to add to my "someday" list. Here in Eau Claire, WI we woke up to minus 10 degree temps and had 22" of snow this weekend. I'm ready to hibernate for the Winter! in my sewingroom of course!

  12. I'm loving your journal covers! You were wise to cancel your meeting, it's better to be safe than sorry any day of the week.

We had some snow today and there were school cancellations on the news. My car had snow on the windshield and back window, but the sun is out now and it's melted. Hey, I'm not complaining!
p.s. - I have to chuckle at some of the word verifications. What in the quilting world is a tatedem???

  13. Thanks for answering my question about whether the journal covers are quilted. On your tutorial I can clearly see the topstitching but not the quilting. Do you quilt it after the topstitching or before? I would think before but since I didn't realize they were quilted, I thought I would ask.
By the way, I read your blog first thing everyday and it always inspires me.

  15. Your journal covers are so colorful. I like that you use up bits and pieces. Glad this horrible storm passed you by somewhat.
