Winning quilts..............and other things
Someone asked yesterday what the Sandwich Fair is. It is really the DeKalb County Fair and it held in Sandwich, IL. It is more commonly known as the Sandwich Fair. It is the largest county fair in IL and the last one of the season.
Today I am showing the quilts that won the grand prizes for their catagories.
If you click to enlarge the photos you may be able to read some of the signs on the quilts.
It is the goal of most entrants to win a purple ribbon at least once.
On the way to the quilts I passed the winner of largest pumpkin. I didn't notice what the weight was.
The pumpkin faces were made by the under 18 crowd.
I will be going back out to the fair today to take some more pictures.

The quilts are beautiful! I especially love the 4 patch quilt. They look mighty tiny. Wow, that pumpkin is massive.
Wanda, if you return, will you jot down the name of the quilter who did the Halloween 9 patch and embroidered haunted houses? I NEED totalk to her! My friend gave me that kit last year and I wanted to get some opinions.
Thanks for a bright and beautiful post!
What fun! Love the quilts and the pumpkin faces. Thanks for sharing!
Thank you for sharing the pictures of the Sandwich Fair. The quilts were beautiful!!
Thanks for taking me to the fair! The quilts were great (I especially like the red/white/blue one that waves). And the pumpkins made me smile first thing this morning!
Oh you know me - I love that one with the tiny 9 patch squares in it - gives me ideas for a scrappy quilt!

Oh my gosh.....I zoomed in on the Best Over All quilt (with the tiny 9 patches). She quilted that on a regular machine! That is SO beautiful!
You could not have asked for better weather for the fair - altho there might be some rain tomorrow.
What fun!! The quilt with the itsy-bitsy 9-patch blocks caught my eye! Makes me think about doing one!
Thanks for sharing, I love seeing quilts from other parts of the country. The tiny 9 patch really caught my eye, how pretty. And love the pumpkins, that's a fun part of fairs, seeing everyones crops and flowers.
Thanks for sharing! The quilts are fabulous and I love the pumpkins.
When we lived in Elgin, one of our favorite outings was the Sandwich Fair. My favorite exhibit was always the fancy chickens. Thanks for sharing.
I enjoyed the quilt show--very nice.
I wonder, if any one knows where I
can get a pattern for the red and white stripped with gold stars quilt?
The pumpkin faces are so funny!
What a great fair.
Your pictures are wonderful -- thanks for sharing. What a great fair!
I love the flag inspired quilt... that's a really neat effect!
