I took a variety of Kaffe fabrics to the finishing class to cut between helping the students. This is the layout for the yellow quilt in the latest Kaffe book but I wanted to see if it would work in an assortment of colors. I think the biggest squares need to be cut from some of the large prints and maybe some of the Philip Jacobs large florals. The squares are 3.5", 6.5", and 9.5" so they work to gether in modules. This one is just at the playing stage and will change greatly. The ladies in the class got a lot done and I forgot to take my camera.
Actually I was rushing to get there on time because Dad was discharged from the hospital this morning and went back to his apt. I checked on him after lunch and he seemed to be doing fine. Then in the evening there were some problems so I'm hoping the home health agency will be able to work wonders with him starting today. He has the mind of a child at this point and it hard to reason with him, but I'll keep at it.
The weather has taken a turn for the good, with lower humidity and slightly cooler temperatures. My neighbor mowed my front yard where the grass was getting pretty tall waiting for a dry day to be mowed. The backyard is shady so it doesn't get so high so I started mowing it last night and will finish today.
That is an interesting layout using 3.5", 6.5" & 9.5" squares. I also think going with some of the wonderful large prints of Phillip Jacobs would take advantage of those larger squares, show off some nice fabrics and give the quilt a focal point.
ReplyDeleteThe layout is similar to the mitered boxes. You know the striped one that I did and called Colors of Peru. Definitely works in modules, love that. Yes, I agree some of Philip Jacobs prints would be lovely. Glad to hear your Dad is home, but hope that your get the aid for him.
ReplyDeleteHope your dad does okay now that he's back home, Wanda.
ReplyDeleteI was sorry to read of his fall and the problems with the medication.
I know the problems that can be encountered with elderly parents so I'm hoping things go smoothly.
Sending you a hug across the internet. Take good care of your dad but make sure you take extra special care of yourself, too!
I love those fabrics. Great way to display them. Hope your Dad does okay with the home help. It is nice and cool here too. Think I will go out and do some gardening.
ReplyDeleteMy #2 attorney's mother has been in and out of the hospital these past months. His sister is here this weekend to help find her "a place" with care as she's no longer able to stay alone (she just turned 90). Transitions and caregiving are such hard work . . . lots of hugs to you and your dad and his home health folks!!
ReplyDeleteNice to have the weather change for the better for you. With all that you have on 'your plate' right now with your Dad and you still manage to squeeze in some creativity. You are amazing Wanda. My thoughts are with you.

The fabrics you are working with are a delight...just like candy! I swear these days with aging parents are "payback" time for all the mischief and headaches we caused them when younger! ;-) Hugs and happy stitching!
ReplyDeleteThose colours/fabrics together are so cheerful! I love how this looks.
ReplyDeleteI hope the home health agency people make a difference for your dad -- and for you.
It's bit cooler here today too. There is a definite difference in the light now.
Glad to hear your dad is back home and doing better. Geez! Your log cabin looks wonderful. Take some time for yourself, you are always so busy doing for others, I was pleased to hear your neighbor got to your lawn, I'm sure that's a big help to you.
ReplyDeleteFor Wanda: Your colors and ministrations to your father inspired this little rhyme...so it is yours...
ReplyDeleteShe does and she goes and checks in on other's woes...loving loved ones as they lose touch and forget...
She mows and she sews and with colors that she knows she brightens up the ether of the net...
with best wishes, Jeannette
I love that quilt. I just purchased a few more Kaffe Fasset fabrics and I'm still looking around for a pattern. I like this but I would have to start with 2.5 squares and workout the rest as I have a bundle of strips.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad your dad is home once again.
It seems to be a very difficult time for both of you.
I know your layout will change, they always do. :) But even as it is right now, it's beautiful. Must have something to do with the gorgeous Kaffe fabrics.
ReplyDeleteGlad you're getting some cooler weather. Still beastly hot here.
Hi Wanda,
ReplyDeleteYour log cabin layout posted yesterday is outstanding! Glowy and graphic at the same time.
I had never heard that antibiotics would cause hallucinations. I assumed it was just the pain meds that did that.
Hope your dad is settled in back home and healing.
Hugs to you.

I have the newest Kaffe book and do so enjoy looking at the photographs in it. I think that you are right that you need some of the large prints of Philip Jacobs or Kaffe flowers.
ReplyDeleteWhat a nice neighbour to mow your lawn- it is nice to know that you have people looking out for you when you are busy looking out for your dad. It is not an easy place for you just now- I know how good to your dad that you are.
Thanks for sharing your beautiful new project..
Regards,
Anna
