I ran out of 6.5" squares and needed some big prints cut in the 9.5" size. I'm still going to cut some more big prints before I make the final decision on the layout. It is an 'OK' quilt right now but I want it to be even better. I couldn't get a straight on picture without moving a table so today I will cut some more pieces and move the table.
I needed some more strips for my Bento Box quilt too so while I cut for the other one I cut strips for this one too from the same fabrics. I need 3 more pairs if my calculations are right.
I called Dad at 7:30 to make sure he had gone to breakfast and he was stuck in his recliner again. The control is attached with a curly cord, but when the chair is fully reclined, the control falls through the crack where the back meets the seat. I went over and rescued him and put ice on his knee again. I'm glad he didn't climb over the side again! The nurse that visited him yesterday suggested tying a piece of fabric to the control and pinning the other end to the arm of the chair so I did that last night. Velcro didn't work so this was the next best thing to try.
Hope attaching the recliner remote to a peice of fabric works for Dad.
ReplyDeleteI though of making a caddy for the remote but Dad would possible not put it in there ah.
WOW you have a mean collection of the most gorgeous fabrics Wanda. The quilt top is looking fabulous.
Men and their chairs. I spent more time at the hospital retrieving the remote and phone from them falling off the bed than I did helping hubby, with his IVs and catheter, to the bathroom. Yup, he wouldn't listen to people telling him "you don't have to go to the bathroom to pee." Men can be stubborn. I hope Dad listens, but I think pinning the chair control is smart. Karmen
ReplyDeleteI'm glad that your dad didn't try crawling out again too. Thank heavens you are so good at checking up on him!!!
ReplyDeleteHave just come across your blog in the last couple of days. Am enjoying parusing and love what I see. Thanks so much for sharing Wanda. Everything is just beautiful.
ReplyDeleteI just love this quilt!!
ReplyDeleteI tried out one of those chairs (as I can see I'll need one sooner rather than later). The salesman cracked " you won't need one of those for another 25 years" I burst into tears and walked out.
Such fun watching this quilt grow. And when you say you "want it to be even better". You know I will be checking in.
ReplyDeleteHow you work on so many quilts at once always impresses me. Organized Bento Box squares so ready to jump on your design wall.
I too remember coming up with the gadgets or helps for my Dad during his stay at facilities. I know they are as frustrated as we are/were that their lives are in this stage.

I'm enjoying your delicious fabrics, AS ALWAYS, and just purchased a pattern for the bento box quilt because I enjoy the shapes and lines on the ones I've seen on your blog. Who knows, maybe I'll start on it in a year or so...after I catch up with UFO's in the sewing room...
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry your dad is having so much trouble lately; I wish you the best as you continue to take care of him like the loving daughter that you are. Take care!
just a quick check in on mail this morning. Pretty blocks as usual! so colorful. I hope your dad will get the chair figured out and not have any more accidents. I hope someone can check on him frequently.

Oh, Wanda, only YOU would call that an "OK" quilt! It is gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteMy Mom got stuck in Mr. Muddling's recliner when she was staying here. She didn't have enough strength in her legs to push the footrest down. It's pretty well always something, isn't it?
Hope the attachment system works (remember, there is always duct tape ... not pretty, but effective).
ReplyDeleteThe colors are beautiful!
Sorry to hear that you are having so much trouble with that darn chair. Glad Dad didn't climb over the side like before. You are a wonderfully dedicated daughter to go and check on him so often. And, wow, you're pretty crafty too. I love that 'OK' layout.
ReplyDeleteI am having a drawing for one of my lace dresses. Let me know if you are interested by Aug. 13.
