I finished sewing these blocks together. I had cut them out over a month ago. I showed this as one of the ways to use the rectangle squares at my scrap class. It is a tessellating design. The dark shapes are 4 pieces of the same fabric, and the light ones are 4 different fabrics and are formed when 4 blocks come together. I didn't get this sewn together as a top yet. It will finish at 32.5" x 48.5".
I chose the fabric for the setting triangles and got this top sewn together. It measures 36.5" x 43.5". Both of these quilts are made from the same block, with the zig zag being scrappy instead of a controlled group of fabrics.
This is what the setting triangle fabric looks like as it is rolled off the bolt.
In the garden the tiger lily buds are just starting to turn orange. They will be blooming earlier this year than they did last year.
Oh boy do I love that setting fabric - it's beautiful. Hand painted perhaps? Both quilts are treasures. Have to repeat my applause and wish that I could join in on your classes!
ReplyDeleteP.S. not to be contentious, but I think yours are not tiger lilies - they look like the asiatics which are more regal than their roadside cousins! In either case, they look nice and healthy! AND they are my fav color!
Both quilt options are wonderful and totally different. The setting fabric is gorgeous!! I used to have those types of lilies in my garden, but they were either eaten by deer or some other animal as they never returned.

ReplyDeletemy tiger lilies are in full bloom right now and some of the flowers have even falling off already. Mine were early this year as you say yours will be.

ReplyDeleteI have to backtrack - first I said to finish it in a zig zag pattern but now I LOVE that offsetting fabric and it is perfect with the other colors.

I like your triangle fabric. I had wondered if you were going to choose two, a light and a dark. I think this is better than I had imagined with two.

ReplyDeleteI love the zig zag quilt, and what a fabulous fabric for the setting triangles. My day lilies still have not bloomed, and my daisies are just starting to break open. My fence line is just green, likt its been for months. This will change next year!

Sniff...sniff....I used to have some lilies like that....I think worms finally will eat the bulbs up...just like they do on your tulips bulbs and such. You must share a photo when they bloom!!!

This is a wonderful pattern to use scraps. Love your tiger lilies...I live in snow country and mine just became unburied a week ago so I will not have flowers for at least another month.
