other half have the 1.5" strips first. I add 2 side borders first and then top and bottom for both rounds.
Another question was about figuring the sizes for the setting triangles. In the past I used the method of measuring the diagonal of a block, add 1.25" and cut squares that size and cut diagonally twice. Sometimes I don't have enough fabric to cut those large squares so I invested in this ruler. I now cut strips to cut the triangles from.
Then follow that line across to the center and it tells what width strip to cut for the setting triangles. There is a direction sheet that comes with the ruler with more information on it.
Carol, you don't have an email link for your comment, and you wanted to know about sashing. I'm not sure what you want to know. I have an email link on the right side bar of my blog if you want to email me directly.
I have that same ruler and love it! It is very handy and takes the math out of it!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for the mine tutorial. I love that technique. I also like the way you use big prints. I hesitate to use big prints.
ReplyDeleteI have the Fons and Porter ruler that is something like but I think mine is smaller than yours. I must admit I have rarely used mine yet. I will soon though as I think I need to make a pinwheel quilt out of some of these scraps and that will be a good ruler to use.

ReplyDeleteI have a different brand of ruler, but it does the same thing. Figures it out for me. *S*

ReplyDeleteOooooooh - THAT'S how you use the ruler!!!! Many thanks!
ReplyDeleteThank you for the tutorial on the ruler. I must purchase one. I try the cut square method, but alas, like you, sometimes there is not a big enough piece to cut for the large square needed.
ReplyDeleteBTW, your latest quilt is beautiful, as usual. You have such a wonderful feel for color.
I really like this quilt. It looks like many framed canvasses of beautiful works of art. Thanks for the info on the setting triangle ruler!
