I just noticed the post number as I was clicking on the New Post button,1111.

The 4 blocks have been on the design wall for over a week with 3 strips auditioning for sashing and/or borders.  I hope I can work on it next week.

This is the way I have been designing the zig zag quilt, sideways on 2 design wall panels.  I have all of the pieces up on the wall and will see if it needs fine tuning today.

This is the way I have been showing it on my blog as I was working on it and below I have flipped it end for end.  I don't think it really matters which way is up unless it would be hung on a wall.

A lot of times I design a piece and then I look at it flipped and usually like it that way better.  I guess that means I design backwards or upside down.  What does that say about my brain?  That I'm eccentric and weird?  I have been accused of both of those before.  By non-artistic people and non-quilters of course.

  1. You are definitely not eccentric and weird. You are a quilter!

    I like the first option.

  2. The right one is the right one, imho. I mean: strip of fabric for choice. --
Go eccentric and weird, I beg you!
Or send them to me to show them my earlier art.

  3. I think that every artist or quilter (same thing to me) has been considered eccentric at some time by non-artists. Who cares, though, as long as we can continue to quilt.

  4. Imagine how dull life would be without people who are eccentric or weird. I think it is a compliment to be considered weird or eccentric!

I like the strip on the right best. I think the other two draw your eye away from the wonderful piecework.

Thank you so much for showing your zigzag horizontally and, yes, upside down too! I like it upside down and horizontally even more than the way you have been showing it.

  6. I agree...the one on the right is my choice. Your blocks are gorgeous...no big surprise, of course. Always love the way you use color.

  7. Personally I like the zig zags either way! It is interesting to look at and I love how you play with color. I wish I had room to leave things out to look at for several days without stumbling over!

  8. I like your new quilt blocks. HOw nice to have two beautiful projects going at once.

As to the liking it better flipped, maybe it's just because you're tired of looking at it the other way. I know by the time I get through with a quilt - I am heartily tired of it. But then after awhile, I am happy to see it again. Just a thought.....

  10. I SO LOVE watching you create! Thank you for sharing. And again, your borders call to me...the blue with green dots pulls the other blues out of the 4 blocks so nicely. The other borders just don't share well. (As I looked at the picture with my hands blocking the various borders.) I wish I had the space to do this! But my art quilts are few and far between. Four kids and a DH...still got 3 gift quilts to go.

  14. No matter how you turn your zig zag, it is looking good ! I like the dark green border on the stars best, it really makes them pop.
Of course, you know best and what your feeling at the time you make a decision is the way it will be !

  15. I love that zig-zag quilt -- no matter which way you turn it. As to the star blocks -- they are fantastic! I like the strips of fabric at the top and right side as sashing/border possibilities.

  17. Another reason why so many of my quilts are non-directional ... I like to be able to rotate them any which way and have them look "right" ... p.s., you ARE NOT WIERD! You are amazing!

  18. Congrates on your 1111 post.

I agree with the other folk the border on the right is my favorite.

Oh and keep being eccentric, I love all your quilts Wanda.

  19. I always enjoy the weekend posts so much. Always brightens my day.

It will a treat to see your chosen sashing border. I wouldn't even think of voting on one of those three, cause I always select the wrong one. (^._,^)

Love your charm quilt no matter which way you hang it~ it is striking !

Today is my first class on this computer I'm excited to learn how to enlarge your blog. Right now it is smaller than what I had on my old Dell. i know there has to be somewhere to click into a larger screen.

  24. HI Wanda,
The zig zag quilt is lots of fun - I love your unique and creative explorations. They take you and your readers to lots of interesting places. What an amazing accomplishment having posted 1111 blog posts.
Hope you had a wonderful National quilt day. I went shopping on line but in the end did not buy any fabric- window shopping is sometimes the best kind.
