The blocks are all sewn, a few moved to a new location. Now it is time to get it off my design walls because I need to get to the space behind them.
I take an old calendar and cut off the numbers that I need for 14 stacks of blocks.
I remove each row from top to bottom, keeping the top piece on top and pin numbers on the stacks.
I usually just remove the rows as I am sewing, 1 & 2 to start, then 3 to add to them, then 4 to add to 1,2,& 3, etc. This time I needed the whole quilt off the wall so I did it this way.
The third bud stalk on this bulb is finally opening. One flower open, another soon, and 2 more buds a little later. The first 2 stalks on this bulb had 5 flowers each but this one only has 4.
AND look what else is blooming, my Christmas cactus. It bloomed for almost the whole month of Dec. and I have about 7 buds on it now. I think it likes my east picture window!
Such a great idea with the calendar, Wanda! The triangle quilt is looking wonderful.
ReplyDeleteFlowers blooming INdoors -- for a moment there I thought you meant outside! That would have been amazing! Good idea about the calendar. I just scribble the numbers on a bit of paper, which I always mean to keep and somehow never do ...
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh that is the coolest idea! Thanks for sharing. The flower. Wait. Let me go back to that. I got all sidetracked with the great idea. Early morning light bulb moments throw me off... hee. The blooming bulb is so neat and all I can think to say about the Christmas cactus is gosh that's so amazing!

ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing your step-by-step quilt construction on your design wall. I can't wait to get cutting.
LOVE the calendar idea! I spend so much time arranging my quilt blocks, and then always manage to mess them up when sewing them together! Not anymore! Not to mention it will save me running back and forth between the sewing machine and the quilt! Thanks!
ReplyDeleteThe flowers are gorgeous. Just what we need in the cold, gray, seemingly endless winter. But it's March now, so there's hope! :D
What a great idea to use an old calendar. Great recycling! Terry

ReplyDeleteI love the idea of using an old calendar to mark the rows.
The amaryllis is such a gorgeous color and I have always loved the Christmas cactus. How nice to have color like that in the winter!
I love the idea of using a calendar for row markers and I've always got more calendars than I can use. I'm going to punch a hole in the center so I can lace the pin through that area. That should make the numbers last longer....maybe even laminate them with some clear Contac first. Thanks for the great tip!
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely blog......I just spend a great hour looking at your creations..thanks for some new inspiration.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful quilts!
