Here is a tutorial for the H blocks. I do not prewash the fabric. I cut 2" strips of the fabric; 2 contrasting fabrics needed for each set of 2 blocks.
I am showing the cutting of 2 sets of fabric here. I would usually be cutting 5 sets at the same time for time efficiency. I always put the dark fabric on the bottom and the lighter one on top. You can see your cuts on the lighter fabric.
I'm an 'H' and someday I was planning to make one... It's still a someday at the moment. I didn't bring a sewing machine to South Africa, nor did I bring many of the other needed tools!!! With the weight limits for flying now... it's nearly impossible to bring a sewing machine, even a small one @11 pounds.

That was really nice of you to post instructions - it seems as though your H's are creating a stir! Yay! What's not to love?
ReplyDeleteThanks Wanda for sharing your "H" block. I have popped it into my favorites.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Wanda. What a wonderful gift you've given us.

Really appreciate the step by step. I'm not an H but I like it anyway and my Kaffe Fassett order arrived in the mail from the sale at From Here to Quilternity. Thanks again for that tip.
ReplyDeleteThanks! I have the same last name as you, so I think I need to make one of these!!!
ReplyDeleteJust discovered your blog via Lazy Gal Quilting. Love your sense of colour and style!! Thanks for sharing your H tutorial ... will have to add this to my 'to make one day' list. Will visit again :)
ReplyDeleteI think I need to make two at once--one for my mother Henrietta and one for my niece Hannah.
ReplyDeleteThank you!

I grew up with an H quilt made by my great-grandmother because it was the first letter of our last name. I have always wanted to know how to make one and that quilt was so old I could have never used it as a pattern. Thanks for sharing your ideas. It is on my "make it someday" list.
