It's December already. Does that seem possible? Isn't it ironic that I will finish my summer quilt in the winter? I have one section of 15 strips sewn and one section of 10 strips sewn together. I have 7 more rows designed and ready to sew. I need to design about 7 more rows and it will be big enough. This is the quilt that I had to complete some sewing on before my art quilters came so the design walls would be empty for them. The right side looks darker only because I didn't have enough lights on at that end. It really is all pastel. The cookies were a big hit and the chocolate chips were the favorite. I always use one full bag of regular chips and then a third of a bag of the mini chips. That way the cookies all have lots of chocolate.

I have been called into work for a couple hours this morning and then I have to take my dad to lunch and then to the eye Dr. office for his new lens for his glasses. They are just replacing one lens and I hope he adjusts to it better than the last time. There is snow predicted for Wed. night into Thurs. morning and I don't want to have to make a trip back there in bad weather.
Wanda, there are many things I love:
ReplyDeleteH-I give it 5 stars
the pastel summer quilt
your chocolate chip cookies
my wonderful red sketchbook cover (which must wait until this sketchbook is full and I'm no longer banging it around in a bookbag)
and
our art quilters group, which is always full of friendship, encouragement and inspiration!!
and your blog
I guess, in the spirit of Thanksgiving, these are things that I am most thankful for!

Wow, I absolutely adore the colors and pattern on this quilt! It's beautiful. :)
ReplyDeleteI like the summer quilt - here I am working on the Christmas quilt which won't be finished until summer or fall! But it will be ready for Christmas next year!
ReplyDeleteHope you dad can see ok out of his new glasses, the adjustment is hard sometimes on the older folks.
Snow flurries maybe for us on Wednesday am they say, nights are getting chilly enough I guess and we have a cold front coming through. I think winter is here also.

It is okay finishing your summer quilt as that what it is here. We are having the most beautiful days and my swim in the morning is glorious.Even though I would love to see snow. A white xmas must be beautiful.
ReplyDeleteYour students are so lucky to have you as a teacher. Not only do you show them how to put quilts together you cook wonderful cookies.YUM!!!
Hope Dad takes to his new lens okay.
I guess that is a good excuse to clear off the design wall. LOL!
ReplyDeleteThose cookies sound wonderful. Did you have any left?
I'm using a similar "liberated" pattern to piece some curtains using Amy Butler fabric. It doesn't have that vintage look that you get with the pastels, but will have a quilt that will use the same fabrics with a different pattern. I love this strippy cut it wherever you want it technique- so relaxing to sew!
ReplyDeleteSometimes it isn't about the fancy piecing and/or design - it is SO about the fabrics. Your summer quilt is lovely!!! And so refreshing as the frost sparkles on the rooftops.
ReplyDeleteVery pretty, soft colors. It will look lovely as a summer quiklt.
ReplyDeleteSnow? There's nothing like sewing in front of a roaring fire while the snow falls outside. Nice pot of soup on the stove & Christmas music in the air.
Your summer quilt warmed my heart with the lovely pastels especially waking up to a sciff of snow and still lightly snowing.

Lovely. I appreciate that you work in so many different colourways and styles. Extra inspiration here.
ReplyDeleteThe pastel quilt looks really nice. You have such a love of so many things. Hope you got everything done today so you don't have to drive in the bad weather. Oh, I'm sure we all will sooner or later again this winter but why push it when we don't have to!
ReplyDeleteI love your summer quilt...in a way it reminds me of a waterfall of colors. Great job!
ReplyDeleteYour summer quilt looks sooo lovely!! I think this time of the year is a good one to dream about sunny summer days....
ReplyDeleteThose chocolate chip cookies sound delicious! Your summer quilt looks great! So soft and summery! And who cares when it gets done! Isn't it the process that intriques us? Hope all goes well with your Dad's glases.
ReplyDeleteThis is pretty. Will the stripes run across the bed or vertical? Interesting how that changes the look of it (as I sit here with my head turned sideways)!
ReplyDeleteLove the feeling of faded summer memories this quilt evokes! Makes me think of a porch on a summer home by the sea.
ReplyDeleteI love that quilt! I don't do summer or winter quilts....I just quilt...I put fabric together and leterrip...funny though, I have so many 2 1/2" strips and looked at them this morning and thought of joining them in sort of a coin quilt, but I like this better. I'd use this anytime.
ReplyDeleteOn one of my DW's I have strips which I've been considering for a strippy quilt. Super scrappy strippy. Then I look here and I think I should pay more attention to value. I'll consider it. I'm not doing anything with that piece though. Not until you showed this. Now it'll float in my head. Kinda like those dern Chocolate Chip cookies. We've already discussed this though. Dear me. I'm really getting tempted.
ReplyDeleteI usually stay away from pastels, but this is pretty and I can see how the soft colors would be nice in summer. I like one of the comments that said it reminder her of a waterfall of color.
ReplyDeleteI'm wondering if you had any problems with it going wonky as you put the strips together. are they cut on the lengthwise grain?
The quilt is beautiful!! No irony here, you just started it in the summer, right? Funny thing is that my daughter is making chocolate chip cookies now too and boy they smell yummy!
ReplyDeleteYou are finishing it at just the right time, it is summer in Australia.
ReplyDeleteHi Wanda
ReplyDeleteYour summer quilt looks cool and refreshing. Are you planning to put a batting in it or leave it without like the old-time summer quilts (when they didn't have a-c)?
Choc chip cookies are my #1 favorite; I just never get tired of them.

I just LOVE the colours in this quilt! Love them!
