The guy who is doing the scanning for the Historical Society just sent me a link to the society's site and I downloaded a few of the pictures. Here is the very first school I went to, first and second grade. It was 1/4 mile from our house and my older brother and I walked to school every day. I had perfect attendance both years.Here is a shot from the back yard at a reuion in 1950. It shows our wonderful playground equipment plus a shot of the outhouse behind the garage.
This school closed in May, 1949 for lack of students. All that were left were my 2 brothers and I and 2 neighbor boys.
Wow. This is nothing short of delightful and sort of takes your breath away. It's like something out of a dream or a photo one might see on the cover of an inviting novel.
Great photos. I went to sunday school in a place like that... near my house on long island we still have two working one room school houses. I find it amazing that they are still run. they even use the old desks with the ink wells... great stuff.
Hi Wanda, What neat photos in this post and the last one. Back when all the girls and women wore dresses. I have a black and white photo of my sister and I posing on a piano bench (late 1950's) and I can still remember the turquoise dress color on our matching dresses. Vicky F
I went to a one room school too, but it was red brick. That merry go round is the best. The ones with the high fulcrum spin really easily and fast. I know, because a friend here has the one from teh school he went to and I've been known to go over and play on it. You can have more fun on them when you are in your 60's I think
We have a little schoolhouse like that not very far from where we live. And it comes complete with the outhouse too. Love the shot with the playground and the kids.

I went to a school very much like that one for 7 years. I also taught in one for my first year of teaching. They were so special, weren't they.
