Last layout, top sewn, playing with leftovers

One last layout with the small blocks. I call this one Kissing Seahorses. I haven't made any decision about which layout I will use, or whether it will have a border. I did sew the big blocks together. It always looks so much better sewn than just blocks on the design wall. I am putting a border on this one so that it fits a twin bed a little better. I haven't decided which color to emphasize with the border.
If you have been reading my blog for awhile you probably know that part of cleaning up the cutting table after making a project is gathering the little scraps and playing with them. I have 2 postcards started and a mini wallhanging.

I am at 965 posts right now so I may use these for part of a give away for my 1000th post. Unlike some of the other blog give aways, mine will just be for my regular readers and not to be advertised to everyone else. Sitemeter tells me I have about 550 people a day that check on my blog. That means that in about 12 days I should have my 260,000th reader. Maybe the give away will be then instead. I am just thinking out loud here right now. I missed the 250,000th reader by about 4 hours. I knew it was coming up and then I was gone for part of the day and the sitemeter only tells me the last 100 readers and it was about 226 back.

Susan Turney warmed my heart with her comment the other day that she enjoys going through my older posts by using the Label List which is on the right side of my page. I know so many people read through a reader or feed program and they never really come to the actual blog that way. I try to label each post so that the Label list will take you to all pages related to the subject. There are hundreds of pictures there to see as well as lots of info. Several people have mentioned I should write a book, but everything I could say is already here for you in the previous posts. Thank you Susan.

  3. LOL - Kissing seahorses - love that name for this layout! It really does look like a pair of kissing seahorses! My favorite layout is the barn raising layout, but isn't it so wonderful that you have so many possibilities with log cabin blocks? The small blocks will look fabulous no matter which layout you choose.

  4. ohmygosh. I always know it's your blog by the photos...your colors are so, well, exuberant! {grin}
Kissing seashorses, indeed. Love how you immediately deal with your scraps...something to remember.
Can't wait to see what you do next!

  5. I agree with the comment about the usefulness of the labels you use. It makes it so much easier to go back and find things you've shown and written about. (And I do go back.) I also look over your reading list. We have the same affinity for mysteries. Your blog is appropriately named - your colors are exhuberant!! Kathie L. from Allentown.

  6. I don't always comment, because I know you reply to them all. So if I dont have anything to say, I don't. (you always seem to get lots of comments anyway) BUT I do read every day. Congrats on nearing such a milestone.

  7. Oh yes, I love the Label List also! I do use it to find older posts.

  9. Hi Wanda!

Of the small block layouts, I like the Kissing Seahorses the best, and I think the name is great too. Speaking of mystery novels, have you read any Tony Hillerman? And Arthur Upfield is great too. You'd have to get those from the library, he wrote in the 50's and his are set in the Australian Outback. I love them.

As you already know, you are an inspiration to me!

  11. I love your arrangements for the log cabin blocks. My husband likes quilts that have an overall design and not just a bunch of blocks. I hope to show him some of your layouts to give us some ideas of what we want for our bed! Thank you!

  12. I've been admiring your Kaffe log cabin blocks for the last weeks. The magic of the log cabin is how the eye doesn't see the colours (which in this case are lovely, lovely, lovely) but the value. If I were you, I'd have trouble picking out a layout for the smaller blocks -- I think I like the barn raising one the most. The kissing seahorses also looks like a variation on Jack in the Box, a block I just made for a challenge. Thanks for letting me enjoy your Kaffe quilt through the wonder of the blogosphere!

  13. This is the first blog I read every morning with my oatmeal..I may not post everyday but I am here almost everyday.
I also enjoy checking the labels on the side as they take me to places I missed before I found this wonderful blog..
I can always count on you to have something wonderful to look at and learn.

  14. You are so welcome, Wanda, but no need to thank me! The Labels area is the first place I check when I have a problem and it's the first place I go when I'm feeling kind of blah....it always perks me up and makes me feel so happy looking at your beautiful work. As far as a book....I would LOVE having everything in print where I could just page through it when I'm not at the computer. Although it's all here, 550 quilters aren't that many!!! There are so many out there that don't even know about your blog and all it's treasures!!! I really think it's something to consider!

  15. Not everyone is online, or can crawl into bed with their computer to look at quilts. People would love a book with your quilts and quilting wisdom. It's a lot of work, though.

  16. What a great name for that layout! If it were my quilt I wouldn't be able to resist swapping the lights and darks in that layout. Just to see...

PS I love scrolling through your old posts. Very inspirational!

  17. I love the name, 'Kissing Seahorses'. Gosh you are so talented. Since I found your blog, I have been a daily reader. And I love the labels on the sidebar because I can then go and look at earlier posts without having to go through your whole blog. 965 posts is a lot of posts! As someone else said, "Wandaful"!

  18. Oh gosh! I forgot to comment on your scraps. Good idea to deal with them immediately. Those postcards and wall hanging look fantastic! I think I am going to try that.

  19. I'd say that you have ALREADY written a book with that many posts!!!!

Love the leftover projects. They are perfect for postcards and minis.

  26. It took me a minute, then I saw the seahorses. I like this setting too. Sounds like you have some persistent readers:) I know that since I found your blog I have not been disappointed with all the joyful colours and amazing quilting inspiration. I think it was the journal covers that brought me here. You won't get rid of me anytime soon:) Keep up the exuberant work!

  27. For what it's worth, I almost always visit your blog (although I watch for new posts through Bloglines). And I DO use your labels ... have gone back and researched many times that way! Your work is consistently marvelous and a resource to be valued highly!!!

What a pair of milestones your blog is approaching!

    WE LOVE YOU!

  30. Wanda even your leftovers look fabulous. I especially like the smaller quilts as that is all I can manage and your work is always inspiring. I too like pouring through the labels for older posts.

  31. Wanda,
I love the way people read your blog with their morning coffee, etc.
I also read it with my first cup and what nobody is aware of, is how you do not drink coffee !
Anyway, isn't nice to know so many people start their day with Exuberant Color ? I agree, you need to put all your tips , pictures and info into a book.
Your advice has helped me so much in tackling challenging ideas and creating the unusual with bold colors.
    Thank You !

  33. The kissing seahorse layout is just beautiful! But i just love the traditional barn raising layout of the big blocks. Gorgeous!! Wow, I can't believe you are at almost 1000 posts. Congrats!! You know I will be back.

  34. Hi Wanda,
It sure is mind boggling all the layouts one can do with the log cabin blocks. I can't pick a favorite. I just did one with 4.5 inch blocks in the star pattern.
I'm curious to see how you plan to quilt the log cabin tops, as that's where I'm stuck with mine.
I like it when you put a link to past photos to compare older versions to newer versions of various quilts.

  35. I like how you used some of your scraps. I usually sweep mine into a scrap bin, hopefully to use in applique. I just have difficulty throwing good fabric away, no matter how small it is.

  36. Hi Wanda,
I read your blog every day. I also use your label list often. Wow how fun to see those numbers grow. I love the Kaffe fabrics but not too many shops carry them. Too bad.

  37. Your labels list is a fabulous tool to use to find other posts on a specific thing. I love that you have it there.
Your Kaffe Fassett log cabin quilts are absolutely wonderful. I'm grateful you show so many different layouts -- it's such a treat to see the differences.

  40. Wanda-
Wow, almost l000 posts, that awesome. I think even though the informaiton is here that sometimes it is hard to have to click all over the place and people like to hold a book and be able to read and see pics. Look at the movie "Julie Child, Julie...movie that was just out, that was blogging each day about recipes, then she wrote a book from the posts then on to a movie...everything is possible....and it would be such a wonder resource and tool for others, I love books, and I can tell you I have bought a zilllion and some of them have no where near the educational info you share and great photos to go along...think it over, ya never know. It's not as hard as you think, you've already done the majority of the work. Love the postcards and wall hanging.

  41. I so love your Log Cabin layouts lots of inspiration with how you use color! When I accidentally deleted all my blogs two weeks ago, I lost yours, and just realized I hadn't put it back in my queue. So happy belated birthday!!!

  42. Hi Wanda. I know this is an old post. I just read through all of your posts on log cabins. And I used your list on the right. Very interesting. Love all the variety in your LC's. I've started a red and white one, and used what you said about two dark strips on the last row.
