Binding AGAIN

I have decided to do another binding by hand on the back. I'm not sure why because this is a twin size quilt and might get used up. I guess the Kaffe fabric on the back made me think it was important enough to take up 4 evenings of my time. You can see the whole quilt top here. I think the seaside quilt I showed yesterday would make a good baby quilt for a seaside baby. When I finish it that is the pile I will put it in, the baby quilts.

  1. I really enjoy binding. However, large quilts like those do take up a lot of time. I love the top, it is really fantastic. My strips and curves class is tomorrow and I am very excited. I have my strata all made up and ready to go. Earthy batiks was my palette.

  2. The hand sewing is so much nicer to me that it's really worth the time and effort. And I'm no fan of hand sewing.

  3. I, too, enjoy the binding process by hand. Of course, that being said, I must admit I am also VERY happy when I get to the last few inches and it is DONE! The look is so much nicer to me...and I do find the process relaxing.

  4. I understand what you're saying, but hand basted bindings really are nice. I think your quilting is so easy-going, smooth, and done in that way that's just enough, not overdone. I'd like to get to the point where I can have my free motion quilting look that easy.

  5. I don't mind hand sewing, but it seems there are usually many other things I want to do, and time is a factor, so I do them all on the machine a lot.

  6. I love putting on the binding. The hand sewing is relaxing and I know that another quilt is almost dome! The seaside quilt will make a great baby quilt!

  7. Just had to go back and see the whole quilt top. So beautiful, and now with your chosen backing and binding it is sensational. I too agree with Twila Grace, your free motion quilting adds to the elegance of your quilts.

    Seaside baby quilt... perfect.

  8. There's something about hand stitching down the binding that I really enjoy, although batik binding must be tough to stitch sometimes. Hope you have a great thimble!

  10. Gorgeous quilt, Wanda. I agree, hand stitching the binding takes time. I procrastinate big time on that part of a quilt.

Do you ever wish you had hand bound a quilt rather than doing machine binding? On my quilts, it seems the machine-bound ones have somewhat "stiffer" edges.
