2009, a fresh start

It is time to jump into something fun today. I started a trend in 1990 to make a new project every new year's day. That continued through 1994 and then I got off track. This one that I am working on isn't technically new since you all voted on sashing fabrics a little over a week ago. It felt new though as I trimmed the blocks to straighten them last night. I measured the tallest block (6.5") and then added spacer strips to top and/or bottom or both to make all of the blocks the same height. Now I have to figure out the size of strips to go between the blocks to make them line up vertically. That may take awhile but it is the fun part for me.
In between figuring sizes and cutting strips I will be reading the new book my granddaughter gave me for Christmas.

I think I have only read one other James Patterson book and I think it was one not in his typical style. I like the fact that the chapters are only 2-3 pages long most of the time so you can pick it up and read a chapter or two when you only have a few minutes to read.
I have 3 large blanket boxes full of floral fabrics from 1995 to present. I have a friend who wants to buy some 2.5" strips of an assortment. If I am going to get out all of those fabrics and press each one, and then cut, I want to cut more for sale on my other blog. If anyone is interested and has a size of cut that you would be interested in, please email me.

Karen - Quilts...etc. said...

I like the square in the square quilt - I think i will use up some of my scraps this way but leave the sashing out - or maybe just put thin sashing in between. I like some James Patterson books, but only when he writes by himself - something about when he co-authors a book - too different and I usually end up not liking it.

HAPPY NEW YEAR , WANDA !
This quilt is going to be stunning and a good start to the New Year. My plan is to work on a few blocks today, but, the quilt stores that are open are calling to me. I think I should stay with the plan, since it is quite windy out.

I was not sure about that choice in background when it was the top choice, but now I am seeing why it is the right choice. How great is that and you amaze me at how much you get finished in such a short period of time.

I am getting off this computer and going to my studio!

"SAIL" looks and sounds like a great book. Your granddaughter has made a good choice.

Anxious to see all the sashing stitched on this piece.

re: New Years eve ~ I REALLY like your New Years thought... "I don't usually make resolutions, I JUST START NEW PROJECTS" I agree with you whole heartedly.

Your final finished quilt for 2008 is wonderful. Thanks for a great year of sharing your wisdom and talents with all of us. You always give us 150% !

Happy New Year Wanda!! What a terrific idea of starting a new project or even finishing an old one on New Year's day! I also have been sewing today, taking a little time off to catch up on blog reading. Speaking of reading, I also enjoy reading books that have shorter chapters for the same reasons as you do! Enjoy your day, and I am looking forward to another year of wonderful inspiration from you. Thanks!

This is an exciting quilt... however I must warn you -- if this book is typical of Patterson's other books, it might be one of those "page-turners that keep me from quilting" reads! He has a few titles that kept me up late because I just had to find out what would happen next.

I thank you too for all the posts and inspiration of the past year, and for your encouraging words and way of making us feel that we "can do it too."

Much joy in 2009!

Oooh -- that quilt is going to be so gorgeous when it's finished. I love that fabric you're using for the sashing. It's so perfect for those blocks.

Your Final finish for 2008 is so neat. I love the bright colors. Your "almost" new project for 2009 is wonderful as well. I really like the sashing fabric that was chosen. I would not have considered that fabric for a border if I was looking at it on the bolt, but it sure work well on that quilt. Two more wonderful quilts! How do you do it?
