I have 3 different colors of Rose of Sharon in my front round flower bed.
This one is more pink than the one above.
I was surprised to see a white one there since they are around the other side of the house. Something must carry their seeds around.
I have 2 different kinds of Sedum, lots of one and only one plant of this one. This one was in a back garden that was over crowded and it rarely had blooms back there.
This is the other variety which I keep splitting and putting different places. I still have 2 pieces of it in pots that need homes.
Here are the 2 together in that front flower bed that I tried so hard to clean up this summer. The first one is at the right and you can see it has a different kind of leaves too. The Coralbell was dug up earlier this summer and put in the pot where it is doing very well.
I think this butterfly is a Painted Lady.
Even the buds on the zinnias are pretty neat.
I was pulling out Goldenrod all summer and I still ended up with a patch of it blooming. It will get pulled or chopped down before the flowers dry up.
I have been watching the weather this week very carefully since my granddaughter's wedding is on Saturday. We are in for 3 tropical hot steamy days in the middle of the week but it looks like the weekend might be cooler and less humid.
There is always a wide selection of Christmas items entered in the fair.
The bottom row here is Christmas afghans and quilts. The second from the left is Sarah's and is a One Block Wonder laid out like a huge Christmas ornament. Maybe I can get a better photo to show you if she brings it to my house some day.
This is one more section of quilts with an interesting variety.
Today is the last day of our 5 day fair.
My row of zinnias is doing well. I'm so glad we didn't have many Japanese beetles this year because they love Zinnia leaves.
I mowed my front lawn Friday night until it got to dark to see what I was doing. I finished the sides and backyard yesterday afternoon.
I have seen some Painted Lady butterflies along with some smaller moths on the flowers. My purple Asters are just starting to bloom and the bees are really thick around them.
The quilt in the upper right is one entry by a lady who won many ribbons.
At the top left is a miniature of the same pattern that she also made.
I used my zoom lens to get closer to the mini version. All I can say is WOW!
Another friend made this beautiful plaid crazy pieced quilt.
My friend Sarah won a blue ribbon on her bargello table runner.
Near Sarah's table runner was this little table mat. I asked the lady in charge of the building if we could see it closer and she came over and held it up for us.
It is pieced.....1/2" finished little triangle squares......
I'm always talking about my friends who come over to sew and one of them won the purple "best of category" on two of her quilts. This one is the barn quilts from NC in the blocks.
This is her other one which she calls lanterns. Remember this is a county fair not a quilt show in an auditorium. The quilts are folded and hanging on pipe rails. This building houses all of the home arts including the food entries.
Another friend who comes over to sew occasionally won 2 purple ribbons too and one of them is on this Hunter Star quilt made of Australian fabrics.
This section of quilts is to the right of the purple ribbon winners.

One of my reasons for wanting to go to the fair is to get an elephant ear. I had already had a few bites when I remembered to take the photo. My friend gave me a ride out to the fair and I walked the mile home eating this treat. More photos tomorrow.
Now it is time to get some basting done so I can have some finishes this month. This colorwash combines batiks and printed quilting fabrics.
My Colorwash360 online class will open for enrollment later this month once again with a live 6 week session. During that time I have a once a week live broadcast where students can ask questions and I answer them on the spot.
I think maybe I will make this whole quilt with novelty type prints combined with the solids. Lynn's inspiration quilt is 81" x 99" (99 blocks). I think I'll stop at a large throw or twin size depending on how many cute prints I find (and I have a lot of them). Click on photos to enlarge and see the novelty prints.
I have 8 blocks sewn with 34 more sets of solid color triangles already cut. This amount would make a quilt 54" x 63" which isn't large enough. I want it to be at least 81" long.
I'm planning on going out to the Sandwich Fair today (DeKalb County fair) so I may have some quilt photos tomorrow.
Two more star blocks are done, potato chips and popcorn. I think when I chose the yellow star points for the popcorn I was subconsciously adding the butter. As a child of the 1940s there weren't a lot of junk foods like there are today and living on the farm we mostly ate what we grew. We had chickens and cattle and pigs besides the garden. Now they tell me I should eat air popped popcorn with no butter or salt. My reaction: why would I want that? We bought potato chips in the tall metal can and they were truly a novelty for an isolated farm girl. How times have changed. As far as my doctor is concerned the only way I should enjoy these foods is looking at them printed on fabric.
I worked on my kits for several hours and then decided to sew a few blocks. I made the bottom 2 star blocks but they aren't pressed yet so they look a little crooked. I have lots more solid triangles cut, just need to cut prints now.
I now have two 6" hole in the barn door a/k/a churn dash blocks made for my Farm Girl Vintage quilt. I plan to make more of these.
