HSTeria quilt along week 4

I only got two more blocks made for my Northwind quilt.  I didn't spend much time on it yesterday.

I thought I would show some closeups of different areas.  Wouldn't an all light value quilt be pretty?

Here is another light area.

The high contrast areas are nice too.  The two orange/red blocks to the right might get replaced.  I'm not sure these fit in this quilt.

I'm auditioning fabrics for the next block, trying to decide if it should be red purple or blue purple or both.

As of late Wednesday........

This is where I am on the project as of last night.  I rearranged blocks and made three new blocks.  The oranges in the pale blocks in the center are way more subtle in real life.  The camera seems to want to emphasize them.  I have several blocks that I may remove and make replacements for them as well as making the last 5 blocks.

I just want to recap some information for the people who just happened upon my blog and don't know they can just read the previous posts from the past week to see my progress from the beginning and for the no reply commenters that are asking questions.

1.  This block is Northwind, not corn and beans which is similar but not the same.

2.   I'm using my Studio die cutter to cut the triangles, 6" and 3" finished sizes (the size after all seams are sewn).

3.  I am using 2 different batik fabrics in each block, no fabric is repeated.  With 80 blocks I will have 160 different fabrics.  That involves pressing out the fold marks from storage on the shelf, cutting a strip and returning the fabric to the shelf 160 times (and I love doing that).

4.  I sew all of my quilts by machine.

5 more blocks-rearranging blocks............

This is the set of five blocks that I was in the middle of when the power went out Monday night.

I have ten more blocks to make for the bottom row and I may end up making some new ones for the right side for a smoother blend.  Actually I moved several blocks after I took this photo and have made three more new ones.  I spent all afternoon cutting 2.5" squares for kits for the color class I will be doing the end of June.  I have 76 fabrics cut out of the 100 I need.  I have cut 11 7/8 yards so far.  I'm cutting more kits than I need so I'll be prepared if I schedule the class again.

On again..........

I was watching the weather report on TV when the power went out last night.  I think it was off about 6 hours.  Luckily my bedside clock comes back on with the correct time.  I got 5 blocks sewn yesterday morning and cut 5 more last night and started sewing them.

I changed the wallhanging in my reading/knitting corner.  This other one (scroll down to second quilt) hung there for 18 months.  I decided I wanted something brighter for summer.

Electricity off at 10:20 p.m.

I'm posting this from my phone. I didn't have a post ready before the storm knocked out the electricity so I'll post in the morning if we have power.

5 more blocks...........

Last night I got ten blocks cut out but only sewed five of them.

This is one of my favorite blocks so far.  I love unusual batiks.

Every mother leaving the restaurant yesterday got a rose.  I had picked the Jonquils and tulips from my gardens on Saturday.

A better photo..........

I added the last 14 blocks that I made on Thursday and rearranged the blocks.  This photo is truer color and values than the one yesterday.  I have fabrics chosen for another 15 blocks and hope to press the fabrics and get pieces cut some time today.  I will be rearranging blocks many times as I continue to make blocks.

Yesterday was a beautiful day in the mid 70s so I mowed the grass and bought a few plants for my pots which I hope to get planted today.  I'm going to try tomato plants in large containers again.  I don't really have a place to plant them in the ground.

The Redbuds are in full bloom.  This is the view out my north studio window.
This is the view out of the west studio window.  There are even more Redbuds trees in another part of the backyard as well as two that planted themselves near my driveway.

Happy Mother's Day!!
