Sewing and garden.....................

I made the third block (not pressed) and added it to the other two for a table runner top.

I changed to 60 weight 2 ply thread and put the single hole plate on my machine to make a couple of the tiny bowties.  I didn't turn on the iron yesterday.

I will need to cut some more pieces to make some more blocks.  I was happy they really came out to the right size.  Sometimes with tiny pieces the blocks come out a bit smaller than they are supposed to.

After 3 days near or above 80, everything is growing fast.  This is the Columbine in the back garden.  I have 2 in the front garden that are good sized also.

There are a lot of Lungwort plants here and there all over the back garden.

Three days ago I didn't see any Hosta plants when looking out my kitchen window.  Now they are about 5" tall.

The three Lenten Rose plants have grown a lot in the last few days too.  All of those other plants are the invasive Bellflowers.  Between them and the million Lily of the Valley, they are choking out a lot of other plants.

The Redbud trees might bloom quicker than normal too because we have a couple more warm days coming up.  I'm still getting used to the white fence backdrop to my nature photos.

  1. I’d been warned not to plant lily of the valley because it’s invasive but I hadn’t heard that about bellflower. You teeny tiny bow tie block are too cute!

  2. Love your blocks--beautifully matching points work on those tiny bow ties, Wanda;)))) Very precise...
My magnolia is all in bud now and looks if we should get some rain in the next few days they would blossom for sure;)) I still don't know if it is a mini tree or a shrub...it was sold as a tree but after many years it really hasn't grown all that much....
I awakened to 62 degrees and sunny skies this morning--looking like another lovely deck day...

  4. Oh please say more about the lightweight thread/single hole plate switch for tiny piecing! I've not heard of this, but I imagine it keeps the fabric from being pulled under?

  5. The gizzard blocks are great but I understand stopping at three! I staked the peonies on Saturday. They're at least 3" taller -- maybe more -- now. Lots and lots of rain. Fortunately the basement stayed dry.

  6. Don't you just LOVE the early spring green of hostas? There's something magical about them (the others, too - but hostas make me so happy).

  8. The little bowties are sweet! Makes sense using the single hole plate. I would guess you are using a sharp needle rather than a universal needle. Getting thu the batik fabric is a bit more of a challenge too with tiny blocks.

  9. a single hole plate is not something I have sometimes the little bits do get caught up and I have to put a leader on it. That is not one I have noticed yet is the hostas I can't say I have looked for them but they should be
