I filled in all of the spots with a couple more reds and lots of yellow/gold choices. Some of those pieces were at least 2 yards so it was a challenge to get the pins to hold them up. I found one more piece of the Lotus Leaf print so I put that one up in the top row. (click to enlarge the photo)
I had tried the maple leaf with the LeMoyne star blocks before when I was trying to decide what I was going to do. The cabbage print is interesting.
I only have a half yard of this Philip Jacobs Scallops and when I searched online I only found one Etsy seller with a fat quarter for $12...no thanks. If I used a variety of the yellow prints I could use some of it.
This Kaffe Dream print is a strong contender. It is the yellow in the block below it too.
Thanks to everyone who told me their favorite with the red fabrics yesterday.
Now I need to hear from some of you again with the yellow fabrics.
I like the dream print….holds its own without competing with the star blocks. The cabbage is interesting but would the purple spots look like distracting blobs? I have a feeling you’ll make a decision and get this one together :)
ReplyDeleteMy favorite is lotus leaf, I like the movement and blending—I think it would stay in the background though. Dream is a close second for me. I wonder about a mixture of those two plus maple leaf and scallops. -Roxanne
ReplyDeleteHi Wanda, These yellow prints are pretty, but I really think a red print, like the top left from yesterday, is a better choice. Having a deeper red print allows the lighter parts of the pieced blocks to pop. With the yellow prints, they all blend together (in my opinion). Have fun!
ReplyDeletei like the yellow print top row left best...lotus leaf? it isn't as chaotic as the others and shows the contrast better i think...a place for the eye to rest a little...i love kaffe fabrics but i don't necessarily like putting them all together sometimes..doesn't always work
ReplyDeleteI like that Lotus Leaf print with these. Is that the Citrus colorway? I think that it has some nice subtle color pops in it.
ReplyDeleteI still love the lotus leaf red fabric. Of the yellows, I'm leaning toward the maple leaf pattern.
ReplyDeleteI quite like the red Shiraz stripe - the first block in the fourth row. It is a strong partner for the dynamic star blocks, provides a ground for them to sparkle, and brings a flash of black and white to the mix. I wonder how it would look with more than one block in place?
ReplyDeleteI’m surprised…like the yellows better as they let the red pop in stars. Of course, it all depends what you want to pop.
ReplyDeleteJust love it all, I would not be able to decide. Feels like a sunny day.
ReplyDeleteI do kind of like those little shells in the top row--they have a nice contrast to the stars blocks...
ReplyDeleteI manage to "sleep in this morning for a change and it's now 31 degrees at 9:30..sunny once more--thankfully...
Hugs, Julierose
I like the last one you show but also like a mixture of that type
ReplyDeleteLotus picks up both yellow and red/orange. The one that says NO is that stripe on the left.
ReplyDeleteI too prefer the reds rather than the yellow blocks with your stars.

I like the pale fabric in the top row, Lotus Leaf in the 3rd row, Kaffe Dream, in the bottom row the L corner and the pale fabric in center, and the spools from yesterday.
ReplyDeleteI don't like the stripe in the 4th row or the fabrics with strong contrast in their colors as they seem to fight with the stars.
You always make good decisions and your quilts are dynamite, Wanda!
Hugs!
I like it with the yellows, and my favorite is in the far right column, fourth one down. I like its balance of colors and values, and think it might be good for both contrast and blending.
ReplyDeleteI prefer the red prints. They help the yellow in the star stand out. With the yellow prints, it all jumbles together.
ReplyDeleteI love the mix of all of them!
ReplyDeleteIs that the cabbage print at the left in the second row? That’s the one I like. You sure have a lot of pieces to pick from!
ReplyDeleteI am glad you are making the decision and not me.
ReplyDeleteI like the mix of all the yellows and reds (except for the stripe in the 4th row, too much of an outlier), but I am frequently surprised by how harmonious your choices that I wouldn't have made are. So much to learn about colors!

I like the red lotus leaf. Its warm with gentle movement makes the star blocks look crisp.
ReplyDeleteSecond choice would be maple leaf, which is warm and sunny, along with the star blocks, reminds me of fireworks, sparklers and shooting stars
First, I think you can’t go wrong with a darker red or a yellow fabric. Because all the lemoyne blocks are so similar in hue I like a mix of “solid block” fabrics to give it interest. Good luck with your decision! I’m sure whatever you choose will be beautiful.
