After pressing the neutral quilt top I put it up on the design wall for its photo. It is amazing how many secondary designs there are when it is just 2 blocks alternated all through the top. It is only 42" wide and 66" long. If I were reclining in my chair it would be big enough to cover me while I nap. Since I probably won't keep this one I think I need to make it wider somehow.
Just for kicks I opened the box with 182 sixteen patch blocks from the same assortment of fabric and placed a row of them down one side. This would add 8" to it for 50" in width. I'll play around with some brick shapes today.
Those little squares look great along the side. And you are so right--the secondary designs are so interesting!
ReplyDeleteAmazing! Jo at joscountryjunction posted the same quilt pattern today, only she kept her HSTs going in the same direction. What a difference it makes in the outcome of the quilt!
ReplyDeleteI like the secondary pattern it makes and the patchwork along the side looks good too
ReplyDeleteI do like the 16 patch blocks along the side...they keep the neutral vibe going and offer other visual interest, too.
ReplyDelete37 this morning--just a little peek at the sun and now overcast once more...at least I know the sun is still there hahaha;
hugs for a great weekend Julierose
How empowering to have a box with all those sixteen patches already pieced! I am about to cut for two very different sixteen-patches - maybe I'll take a cue from you and make the blocks and then set them aside like Cathy does in her SAR (some assembly required) method.
ReplyDeleteLots of time could be spent sitting and trying to catch all the secondary designs, fascinating quilt.
ReplyDeleteSecondary designs are so much fun- like bonus tickets. Love the way the squares play with all those triangles.
ReplyDeleteI love your surprises… the box of patches added is even more fun. You mentioned trying some brick pieces also. Can hardly wait to see where you’ll work them in.
