First finish of 2023............

The Friendship Star quilt top was made in April 2021 and the backing was chosen early last year.  I used all of the 4" triangles that were cut from scraps in 2019 and only cut the center squares specifically for this project.  It is small, about 47" x 59".

I used flannel on the back, a very small plaid.  I thought the green went well with the front of the quilt.

I found a green print that looked good with it for the binding.  I had just a half yard of it and now there is just a small amount left.  I did the binding all by machine.

I looked at all of the Kaffe Strata colors for sashing and decided on the green one for it.  The strips will be 1/2" narrower than they look here after they are sewn.  I tucked the top left corner strips under the block to simulate the finished width.  Today I will look for a fabric for cornerstones.

Last night I sewed some of the blocks for the neutral quilt.  They are 6" blocks and there are 33 of them done so far.  I made 4 alike of each combination except one that has 5 blocks.

  1. Friendship Star came out so well--very pretty; that KF sashing looks really good, too...
Only 29 degrees when i got up this morning...and still overcast--I am beginning to wonder if the sun will ever come out....

  2. It may just be the photo or the fact that it doesn't include all the blocks but I can't say I really like the stripe you have chosen for the sashing. It mutes the vibrancy of the colors in the blocks. I'll be looking forward to seeing the cornerstones and how it looks all together.

  3. Great job getting your first finish for 2023! It turned out great! I started catching up by reading today's post and there was a new quilt in progress! Gee, I missed a lot in just two days! LOL!! The Ohio Star quilt is so colorful and all you had to do was make one more block then you could pick sashing and corner blocks? I see another finish soon!

  4. I've always liked the "ribbon" variation for Friendship Stars--the ribbons pull the eye across the quilt. The strata sashing sets off the Kaffe blocks nicely. (More rain today!)

  5. Your ‘spring green’ backing and binding really compliments the Ohio Stars. A fun piece to add to your January finishes.

Thumbs up on your stripe sashing and more neutral blocks.

  9. Congratulations on your first finish of the year. That dotted fabric adds a lot of jazz to the quilt. I really like how my eyes alternate between seeing the stars and the ribbons in it.
