More decisions...........

I found 4 lavender fabrics to audition for the border of this last block and I was pleasantly surprised that this was the winner.

I have sewn the 3 star blocks together and now I have to decide what will be above and below them.  I know I have some quarter square triangle blocks that are matching in color.  I'll have to look for them today.  I may end up with just a strip of fabric at the top and then borders around the star block at the bottom.

I love my Dr. Pepper but my doctor has done his best to try to convince me to give up the sugar.  I usually just have a can of it every other day.  A friend knows how much I love it and she saw this clip in the newspaper and cut it out for me.

I just smile every time I read it.

  1. Hahaha--funny quote...My MIL drank a can of Coca Cola everyday and lived to be 98--so either these are "special people" who can tolerate sugar or else...???
Anyway--surely a can now and then as a treat would be okay...??? what is it they say--- "moderation" in all things...

I really like that lavender surround on the star block--it goes so well with the other colors...nice choice hugs, Julierose

  2. I am loving this quilt, Wanda. It is beautiful, my kind of scrappy quilt. I love to see all the Christmas goodies you've been baking. I have a couple kinds of cookies to bake yet, and also English Toffee and Peppermint bark to get done. I still have a little time! Merry Christmas!

  3. I drink a small bottle of diet coke or zero coke every couple days and I really don't see what the fuss is about - as long as you aren't drinking it constantly. In my opinion the problem is if it is all you are drinking and you are drinking them all day long - Or I guess if you have something like diabetes or hugely overweight
love how you are using all those extra blocks into one quilt and they all go together in color well.

  4. That is so great that lavender striped fabric worked. It is a hard fabric to use. That is a great quote from that 104 year old lady. I gave up Mountain Dew several years ago and I do miss it. I do love my sugar! I would think a can or two a week couldn't hurt, but then again the only way to tell is to do bloodwork and see how the old triglycerides are. Mine are too high even after I reduce my sugar intake a lot and lost 12 more pounds so my doc put me on meds. I think the meds make me tired, sad, and give me dream crazy stuff so some rethinking will have to take place when I go back in February.

  5. This quilt is absolutely beautiful! And the lavender-stripe fabric is a good lesson on the importance of auditioning — never would have picked that one, except it now plays perfectly with the entire quilt.
And the "experts" don't necessarily know everything. If you truly enjoy something (and aren't morbidly allergic to it, like some folks are to various nuts), then why not brighten your life??

  6. I like the mix of fabrics around those stars. All the same would have been rather boring compared to the rest of the quilt.

  7. This was my laugh for the day, I love it! It's amazing to me how your quilts come together where I would be lost on what to do next. So helpful and enjoyable to watch along.

  8. I hope you have framed that great quote! My MIL’s doctor told her she needed to stop drinking whole milk and she was pondering it. I told her she must be doing something right. She was in perfect health, and she lived to be 98.
I really like how you are putting these leftover blocks together. I always enjoy reading about your thoughts behind the design process.

  10. Repeating again, how I’ve enjoyed the production of this quilt top. And each piece of fabric no matter how big or small, makes such a HUGE difference. I so look forward to seeing this one completed.

  12. You are a doer not a sitter and need that sugar to keep your energy levels up. I am super impressed you machine stitch while watching evening TV. That's my time to sit down with some desultery hand sewing and for heavens' sake it's Dr Pepper not half a bottle of whisky!

  13. Well Wanda, my husband was an athlete and a healthy eater, thin as a rail and very conscious of what he ate, eg; no alcohol, no soda, etc He died a nasty death from ALS when he was 70. My grandmother drank Strawberry soda in a can, ate candy, baked cookies and was a substantial woman. She died a few months shy of 100 clear minded playing bingo and canasta. I love diet Coke...drink a few each day. I am still here. The only problem I have is my arthritis. I have had 4 joint replacements. I told my ortho surgeon that my daughter blamed my rotton joints on diet Coke...He laughed. He said that if that were the case, his entire staff would be getting joint replacements. My father died during his 4th open heart surgery. He ate a perfect heart died. He was 74, when they looked closer, his entire body was occluded with choleserol just like his father before him. It had nothing to do with eggs. My husband did a study for money during graduate school. He had to eat 3 eggs a day for two months outside of meals. He was then checked for cholesterol. He maintained low levels thoughout the test. His body did not make it like my father's body did. No shame at 80 for enjoying your Dr. Pepper...Many a doctor died before my grandmother. You just cannot out run the grim reaper. xoxoxoxo
